I've noticed that quite a few people have mentioned that they don't care for Sammy's solo during the 2004 shows, and I'm curious as to why. I personally love Eagles Fly And Deeper Kind of Love, and I knw others out there do as well. Are people finding Eagles Fly to be stale? Do you flat out dislike the song? Do you not like the acoustic version. Is it a not liking Sammy solo thing. Let's hear some opinions on Eagles Fly and Deeper Kind Of Love.

I love Sammy, Eagles fly is cool, & I dig that he does a solo thing (I dig deeper kind of love), I LOVED it in 93 when Van Halen as a band did Eagles Fly, but you know when the same old thing gets played the same old way, it can get old, now I dig the way he's playing it on this tour but it does slow down the pace of the show...
I think that you answered your own question though, I imagine different people dislike it for different reasons....

I agree with Steecoe ... I like Sammy a lot and I think Eagles is one of his better tunes, I did really, really dig it when the full band played it. Some people won't like it because it has been played time and again and others because it is acoustic or Eddie isn't out there or whatever. Personally I like it quite a bit.

Let's just put it this way...

I filmed VH last week, and everything was going great - damn near zero obstructions. When Sammy started "Eagles," all of a sudden everyone started getting up to take a piss/buy beer. The screen goes black several times during the first part of the song.

It simply is not a crowd pleaser in most places.

Randy, do you personally not like the song? I'm actually surprised he doesn't change up hs solo more often. His setlists seemed to vary alot when he toured solo. I would love to hear him do "Things Have Changed". It' a little more upbeat than " Eagles Fly" and "Deeper Kind Of Love".

I don't think it's a bad song - I just think he should play something a little more upbeat. Perhaps "I Can't Drive 55" or something like that.

My take: VH has/d a well deserved title of the greatest party band on the planet. DLR might be gone but the fans still remember and come to the shows ready and tanked up. Sammy's ballads are very well written and melodic songs that the party people don't want to hear in the middle of a set. Brings everything to a halt and allows the bladder to let us know that it's pissed that we shotgunned a 12 pack of Lucky Lager in the parking lot before the show.

Interesting take on the subject. I gotta know though, is Lucky Lager a micro-brew or is that a code name for Schlitz? Lol! Just kidding.

I love hearing Eagles, but wish the rest of the band would jump in like in `93. That is my favorite version of the song. Eddie's leads during the verses are really cool.
As for Deeper Kind of Love, I don't care for that song very much. The "show me your world" outro is cool, but the rest of it leaves me bored. Lucky for me, I got to hear something different at the Omaha show since Sammy played Hallelujah. Thing've Changed would be cool. I'd really like to Hear Tropic of Capricorn myself.
I say keep the solo, but change it up a bit. That goes for the rest of the set too. And while I'm at it, Mikey should do other songs and not just SGMAD every night. Didn't he do Running With the Devil at one of the consecutive nighters earlier in the tour? Atleast alternate between those two--that would be fantastic. :thumb:

I love the song, but agree it would be nice to hear other Sammy songs, how crazy would we go if he broke out into something like Red?
