| This is the first video I ever saw of Van Halen live. I rented it from the Warehouse when I was like 7. It took me 15 more years to find out that footage from the DLR-era even existed! Those are some serious knuckleheads running the show up there at 5150! Who wouldn't release US Fest or Oakland 81, or Largo for that matter? Unbelievable! |

| I thought I remember some backstage footage with them screwing around and playing 'addicted to love'. Is that Van Halen Unleashed from MTV? I'd do anything to see that again. |

Yes that was from UnLeashed. That would have been great Bonus footage to add to this dvd. I would say of the "Official" releases this is the best one. I was never crazy about RHRN. I didn't like how they mixed footage from 2 different nights in to one song all throughout the dvd. |

I think I still have the 60 minute version that originally aired on Showtime before the VHS version came out. Our neighbor had a "descrambler", so they got all of the PPV channels for free. They recorded it for me and I wore that tape out watching Eddie's solo.
I don't recall exactly where, but at some point on the DVD there is a fade to black and fade up, as though they went to commercial or something. I think it was right after "Best Of Both Worlds", but I could be wrong. I never understood that. I've said it a million times, but the BTB Productions 2 DVD set blows the official release version away in my opinion. I believe the transfered it from the laserdisc version of LWAN. Disc two has "Unleashed" as well as the unedited eMpTyV VMA footage from '86 and some other goodies. That's the kind of thing VH should be releasing.
Also, when that DVD came out, there was a lot of talk that there was some other unrelated video on the DVD. I'm sure Higgy can remember this, but there was a sofware program you could use to scan a DVD and find all the hidden content for those people who like to know what all of the easter eggs are without hunting for them and there was some sort of a music video without audio on the DVD. I remember I found it on mine, too. It's not chaptered and you can't pull it up on your DVD player if I recall correctly. Someone thought they may have "reused" a batch of DVDs that may have been shelved, because there was still enough room on the discs to put the 88 minutes of LWAN on there. Anyone remember this? |

Yes, the BTB version is from Laserdisc. I'm pretty sure it was from *my* laserdisc actually. :)

Here is what I wrote about it at the time.
Quote: Maybe if Warner (or whomever encoded it) hadn't dumped about 2 gig of unrelated video on the disc they could have upped the bit-rate for a bit better video quality.
To me the video looks like it's of British origin. It follows some guys around in a little 3 wheeled car, on a boat and on a bike. It appears they are trying to get to a place where they can play music, as they stop to ask for directions, are carrying a map, etc... There is no audio with any of it, but it kind of repeats over and over. |

| Hmmmm. I would swear that I had the Showtime version before the VHS, because I remember thinking, "Why would I buy that now when I already have it recorded" and then I realized that the VHS was a half an hour longer. Of course, I was 16 at the time, so maybe I recorded it thinking I wouldn't have to buy it?! Who knows. :D |

| This is by far one of my favorite shows. I love the fact they barely played much old material. Now when you watch it you get all the great 5150 songs! |

I had a bootleg copy of the laserdisc version burned onto a DVD-R that I bought off eBay (before it was released on DVD), and I've misplaced it. I am so pised that I can't find it.
The same person who sold me that disc also included, free, a 2-CD audio copy of the laserdisc show. I just started listening to that show again and I can't seem to get enough of it.
And now, since I can't find it, and the local WalMart here has stopped selling music DVD's, I ended up d/l'ing LWAN off a torrent site a few weeks ago. It's a mainstay in my DVD collection while I'm on the train. |

No, you're right, Voodoo. the Showtime special aired a few months ahead of the commercial release; and, was taped by you, me and lots of people who wore out Eddie's solo ... and, still bought that VHS the day it came out. this i'm certain of. |

well I am not sure how many months ahead of time it could have been shown, since it was recorded at the end of august & released in november.... |

| I also love that show. I think there are very few of us who can say that the first time they saw VH it was captured professionally. I always wished that they had released the whole show. I remember being fifteen and walking into the old New Haven Colisieum and being excited of course to finally see VH live and then finding out it was being recorded. That was such a great night, hots as balls as I recall, but VH was on that night, and I was mesmerized by Eddie. |
