Lemme take a crack at this:

So, my other computer is downloading the show by way of some "torrent" thing. When it's done, I write it to a DVD disk (mine apparently is a DVD+RW device). Then I offer it to you folks with a request that you sign up by a certain deadline informing me of your info:
Your preference to be a BRANCH OR LEAF ?
Your EMAIL Address
STATE/COUNTRY LOCATION
SCREEN NAME
I then assign leafs to branches based on geographic proximity. I post this complete list in this forum then get the mailing addresses of the branches and send them each a copy of the DVD. The branches take care of leafs by contacting them then sending them their copies? Do I have this correct?
This friggin show is taking forever to download but I have stack of blanks ready for when it's done.

Yeah, that's pretty much it except that you do a trade with the branches.

ok - so that means each and every branch sends me back something in return? Do I request what I want or just accept whatever they send me? I suppose it only makes sense that I receive a DVD for DVD, etc.?

The only other concern I have is whether the quality is going to end up embarrassing me. I don't want to be the purveyor of shit. I have a HP zd7000 with a built in HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N burner with a stack of TDK DVD+R blanks I bought from Costco.

Am I good to go?

This torrent download takes FOREVER! But, I'm leaving that computer on non-stop until it finishes.

I really appreciate the assistance with getting going. :)

It's really up to you & your branches how you work out the details. You CAN trade, but don't have to. You can trade for blanks, or just send them the discs out of the kindness of your heart! As long as both sides are happy, that's the key.
I downloaded that DVD & it's worth the wait, I liked it!

I just figured out how to create a pinhole? in my firewall. Whatever I did, I got this download thing crankin'. Looks like the show will be complete on 9/30/04. I will then attempt to transfer it to a DVD disk. If it plays, I will make copy one. If it plays, I will do the tree thing.

I understand my role will be to provide those who seek to be branches with the DVD. To celebrate my first tree, I will not require anything in return. However, if someone wants to send me back something, great. Also, I don't have first hand knowledge of this show's quality. Please don't get pissed if it sucks because I didn't see it yet. (However, steecoe like it).

I further understand that the branches are the ones who will create and send copies to their leaves. However, I am unclear as to the deal between the branches and the leaves. Is it up to each branch to arrange a deal/trade with his/her leaves? Do I have to do anything there? Or, is this something the branches take up their leaves without my involvement? I assume that all I do is collect everyone's names, etc. then create the structure. Then, I send the branches their copies and the rest is up to everyone else. Is that correct?

Thanks for the previous replies. I am determined to make my first foray into this treeing thing a success. I am very much appreciative of the help. :thumb:

P.S. looks like I have leaf #1 already. fpcvh - please go ahead and post your info: (Your preference to be a BRANCH OR LEAF? Your EMAIL Address; Your STATE/COUNTRY LOCATION & your SCREEN NAME)

NOTE: I WILL BE PROVIDING DVD+R DISCS TO BRANCHES.

Trades between branches and leaves don't involve you. That's up to them.

One thing I would try to do when you create the structure. While it's good to get branches together with leaves in the same geographical region, remember that it is more expensive to send out of the country. If you just get a few foreign people signed up as leaves, try to spread them around so one person doesn't get them all.

If you end up sending to someone out of the country, remember that customs form.

That above information is GOLD. This forum has become a tutorial for getting on board.

I just added my own photo (Avatar?). It's Eddie as a kid. Found it one some French language website: http://membres.lycos.fr/metaltom/jeunes.htm

A couple of the photos show eddie holding his first guitar. Some dude on another site blogged his VH trek and found the guitar at the "Tone Zone - VH Museum" in Pasadena. Really cool. Check it out: http://www.trekshare.com/index.cfm?P1=121&tripid=5828

Two other very interesting sites are:

Hey Chickencow (and what's the story with that screen name?)

If you are planning to tree up the St. Louis dvd, I can get you a copy of the 7/26/04 KC show to go with it - kind of a "Coast to Coast Missouri Tree"

It's similar in quality to the St.Louis show; I prefer the St.Louis show, but Kansas City is not too far behind. It does start right at the end of "Jump."

Let me know if interested.

vcr5150 - Yea, I would definately be into piggy-backing the KC Show. Thanks for offering. Are you looking to participate (branch, tree, etc.)? Or maybe you need a copy of the St. Louis show?

The St. Louis show is finished downloading. I didn't burn it yet because I am hangin' on a bit to fulfill my seed duty.

I will burn St. Louis tonight then test, etc. Check your PM Inbox for my info.

chickencow - my little kid starting yelping "chickencow!" a while back. He's a funny little shit. I don't know what the heck it means. It's easy to spell and easy to remember. And, no one else was using it. Big surprise. (chickencow@bellsouth.net).

Hey all - I was able put the show on a DVD disk via Roxio Drag to Disk. However, although it plays on WinDVD on my computer fine, when I put the DVD in any of my DVD players (regular ones hooked up to my TVs), it won't play.

Any suggestions? (My burner is DVD+RW device built into my notebook).

When I eventually send out copies to the braches, what should my final product be? Just a non-labeled DVD disk sent out in recycled AOL cases? Must the DVD be playable on home DVD players (I would imagine, yes)?.

I want to make sure I get this right before I announce an official tree. Any and alll help is APPRECIATED. :thumb:

Hey, just a quick question. Does your standalone DVD Player say that it can play DVD+RW DISCS???? Some do not, might want to check your user manual for that DVD Player also.

Also i am assuming that when you burned that file to your DVD+RW you took it out and reloaded it and played it again.?????

What did you burn the DVD as a Data discs, or an exact disc copy?????

I use Titanium Toast on my Mac and it makes an exact clone of what ever i am copying.

what is the file extension on those Torrent files????

did you end up with video_ts files.

i am not an expert on torrents so maybe you need to convert those files before you can play them on a DVD???

Or maybe it's another problem.

Don't feel bad, dude. Out of all the bootleg DVD's I own, only 1 is playable in my standard DVD player. The rest I can only watch on my computer.

BTW, how's the quality on this St. Louis show? Anyone else know?
