Here is the info Randy posted:
I've completed both of these shows. They are both very nice. I demuxed the audio and video from the DVDs that Joe sent me and reauthored them - I did not do an analog capture and re-encode these. I was tempted to do it for the Metallica, but I just don't have the time.
After looking more closely at the Kiss show, I'd have to say the picture quality isn't quite as good as I originally thought. Don't get me wrong - it's still "A" quality in most books, but it has that "flecky" appearance in the background colors at times. Strangely enough, the blacks are perfect black (typically in the background). So I'm thinking that maybe someone already ran this through a timebase corrector. It's over two hours long, but it's only just over 3 gigs in size - so the encoding is pretty low. Also, I noticed at the very end of the video (something that I've since edited out) there is a screen from a stand alone burner - so this was copied from a DVD player to a stand alone burner at least one time. That's probably where that "flecky" stuff comes from.

I'm guessing the Metallica comes from a 1st gen video - copied sometime several years after the original master VHS video was filmed. It's very good quality for an audience video that's so old. Let's face it - there just aren't that many nice audience videos from the 1980s.
By today's standards - I'd give the picture quality a solid B+. For the time period and what you usually get from that era - it's an "A" quality pic. The camera work can be a little herky jerky and sometimes with the zoom goes in and out super fast. But the filmer gets a nice close shot with only a few obstructions, and the audio quality is amazing. I just don't know how the camera was able to pick up the audio so clearly. As you can see ffrom the screen captures below, it's shot from stage right.
