I'm a relative newbie to posting, so I'll do my best to keep this short... :)

If you read the Milwaukee review, you'll get a good sense of what the Ames show was like (lower section of the building full, upper section mostly empty...ok opening band with a bad-dancing lead singer who I think must be Gary Cherone's cousin) I won two tickets via a radio call-in contest, and I'm really grateful for getting to see the guys play again. I drove to Chicago for their first Chicago show, and the Ames performance just blew the Chicago performance away.

Eddie was much more crisp in comparison, and last night was the most I've ever seen him sing in all of the VH concerts I've been to. He and Sammy seemed to be getting along fine, and Eddie was pretty much on his game. Sammy skipped a few of the high notes, but overall had a great voice. Alex was Alex. I've never seen a show where he wasn't great. Mikey had great backing vocals as usual, but like most people say, his bass solo leaves something to be desired.

If this tour does end up being the end of the road for these guys I'm glad to say that the last show I saw was a pretty damn good concert.

Go VH!

Asside from the usual lack of surprises in the set, last night was fantastic. My favorite of the 4 2004 VH shows I went to, including Greensboro. My buddy and I were in the fifth row on Eddie's side and got our banner on the stage and Sammy held it up durring Panama. It was the WELCOME BACK VAN HALEN banner in black & red and had our names at the bottom. (VAiN MATT). What a thrill that was. I've always wanted to do the banner thing. Now I like Panama more than ever!

The sounds was absolutely amazing where we were. Crystal clear. About the best sounding concert I've ever been to. I'm curious as to how it sounded elsewhere in the arena. I've been to lots of shows at the Hilton, but have almost always been on the floor or really close to the stage, so it usually sounds great in there from my perspective.

Eddie was having a blast, jumping and kicking all over the place. I don't remember him ever moving around his ring and the rest of the stage that much at the other 2004 shows. His solo was fantastic. I used to not enjoy his solos that much whene I was first getting into VH back in `93, but now I love it. Go Eddie!

Now, I have to decide whether or not to make it down for the last two shows....
Long live VH!

I was straight on from the stage at the top section of the "lower bowl", so I was as far away from the stage as someone could be in that section. The sound and the view from there was great. I've only lived in Iowa for a few years, so this was my first concert in Ames, and it was a memorable one!
