OK, Now I'm confused.
2 weeks ago I posted that was selling my personal Van Halen Collection.
I got MANY replies privately and no one had e-mailed me saying that this was a Taboo subject to post in this category.
I looked at the Forum Description and it says you CAN sell in THIS Forum.
Most of the other categories say "NO SELLING OF BOOTS" in their description.
As alot of you know, I've come upon hard times and wouldn't do this if I didn't have to.
That's not an excuse but I'm not "putting it out there" to sell items within my collection on E-Bay and other auction/selling sites.
So please correct me if I'm wrong.
Not starting anything but just looking for some clarification. :yell: |

This is a shady subject. While I think it's cool to sell souveniors or pick, sticks etc....The selling of any boots in not cool. The ONLY exception, I believe, is selling Silver discs. The ones that were professionallly pressed etc.. I've even sold a couple. I know there's a few cats here that want these. I even keep a lookout at the used bins for these.
Sorry to hear about your misfortunes! :thumb: |

AS far as I'm concerned, a boot is a boot whether it's a "Original Silver" or a CD-R Copy.
We've dragged this out SO many times here, but......................
I DO have some Silvers for sale from my collection! ;)

Yes, if it' not an official release then i guess it is considered a boot. In my opinion, we should not promote the sale of non official audio or video boots on this site. If the boots were meant to be sold, then the band would be selling them.
We open up a whole other can of worms if we start selling shows on this site.
Ultimately, this is Scotts site and his final decision.
But personally i dont think we should promote the sale of those shows, even silvers. |

Personally, I am not a collector of "collectibles" like silver CD and DVD boots. I just like watching good shows, and to me, the value is in the show, not the disk on which it's burned. But I understand some people are really into to the whole collector thing and that's cool.
I can remember back in the early '90s seeing Van Halen boot CDs (silver disks) at this used record shop and they wanted something like $30 a pop for them. In most cases, people payed a lot for them.
As Shawn said though - untimately, it's Scott's call.

Most trade communities I'm aware of don't allow selling UNLESS it is PRESSED discs. Burnt discs are completely off limits. I think as guitard pointed out it is the whole collector's aspect. There seems to be some collector's value to pressed silver discs.
As been said by guitard and RocknRollVideo it is Scott's call. |

And you may be right on this, but I still say that a Boot is a Boot, wether it be Silver or CD-R.
I have been contacted privately by many here on the "Trade" site and the
VH Trade Mailing List that have bought my Silvers from me.
I guess my point is we Trade boots and we sell boots.
It is Scotts call but as I eluded to in my earlier post, there is no mention that you CAN'T sell Silver CD's or CD-R's in THIS section of the Forum.
I will abide by what ever Scott decides.

Speak for yourself Roger. I have and never will sell boots. What you do with your boots is your business, but dont throw it in peoples face. If you want to sell, go put it on ebay, not here. The reason most of us hang here and think so highly of this site is because of this. But most of all the people. No Bullshit.
Enjoy the Trading!!! |

Easy big fella.
Lifes to short to stress out.
I wouldn't even be selling my VH/DLR Collection if it wernt for being unemployed/financial situation.
Not trying to put anything in "anyones face".
I've shared PLENTY in 22 years, way before there was an Internet.
This is "VHTRADE.COM", so I'll refrain from selling my collection here, but it doesnt change the fact that I still need the money and the bills gotta be paid.

I understand Roger, not stressing out just making a point that vhtrading is about trading. Just suggesting ebay would be a better place than here to do that.
Peace

One interesting form of hypocrisy I've seen on other sites/trade communities and now here as well is -
people are so against others selling bootlegs, yet I'm willing to bet my entire collection that those same people have purchased bootlegs themselves!
Everyone has to start somewhere and its typically at record shows where you but bootlegs. Its been years since I've boughten any but it helps to have a large trade list and also to be a taper where you can get the shows yourself. |

Chucky,
Your Godamn right.
When I first started out, NO ONE would trade with me.
It took me about a year and $1000.00 of my own money, to be able to "begin" to have a collection that people would look at seriously enough to trade.
That was in the day of cassettes,Vinyl and VHS.
Even when I was trading, I was STILL buying boot vinyl.
I remember one year I took my income tax refund and bout $900.00 worth of Boot vinyl.
Can't get enough of it! :p
So here I am 23 years later and I'm trading here and selling there ,AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
I just BOUGHT some MORE Boot vinyl! :thumb:
I just get tired of all the "Kum-Buy-Ah" lets get all warm and fuzzy, share the music.
Then those people will contact me off list and ask "How Much?
Don't misinterpret me here.
All I'm saying is don't be so self righteous.
A boot is a boot, whether its on Silver Disc or CD-R or VHS or Vinyl or DVD.
Doesn't make a difference WHAT color the ink is on the underside of Blank Media.
Its still a BOOT!
If you wanna Trade it fine.
If you want to sell it (just not here) fine!
Bottom line is, now matter HOW you got it..............ENJOY IT!
My .02 cents and I'm sure someone here will crucify me, but hey, that's what makes the world go round. |
