I'm relieved to finally have the site back. Here's what's happened the past few days:

After scouring the website logs for several hours on Monday, I found out how the
hacker got in. He screwed with the search function on the boards, typed in
some code and was able to make himself an administrator (!), thereby giving him
access to purge a large portion of the database. I've since found a fix for
the security hole. I've also found the fucker's IP address and blocked him.

I also tried to restore the database from the last backup I had (which was dated 12/12/04). Three failed attempts were made. One attempt took over 24 hours writing out each SQL statement one by one by the automated restore script, and stalled at about 70% completion. The other two failed completely for some reason (corruption in the database records, perhaps?) Anyway, a restoration from the week of 12/6/04 was successful, so here we are.

I apologize for any loss of posts, private messages, or any other other changes anyone might have made over the past few weeks. But I'd rather have an old board than no board at all.

With all that said, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'd also like to thank everyone for all of their support they've given me, the website, and the community over the past year. It's truly all the great traders helping one another that has made it worth maintaining this site. Thanks! :thumb:

The majority of them don't figure it out. A few select people do, then post the exploits somewhere for people to use. Its amazing how many attacks in my weblogs I see for an IIS Server (thankfully I use Apache myself). Just my expierence with it.

Good to have the boards back up. Post his IP so we can attack him! :thumb: :thumb:
