Was wondering how it sounds compared to the regular Phase 90.
I have one from the late 70's, haven't used it probably since then!
Drawback with those older pedals is changing the battery is a pain. |

| i bought one about 2 weeks ago.it sounds wonderful.i compared to my phase 90 i bought about 5 years ago,i done the r28 mod to this one,and the evh sounds much better.it is more subtle sounding i guess, kind of hard to describe.it has a jack on the side so you can use a power adapter, otherwisw you have the battery going in and coming out the same way as the old ones |

From my understanding, there is no difference between the orange Phase 90 and the Frankenstrat striped Phase 90. The paint is the only difference from what I've read (that and a blinding blue LED light on the Frankenstrat model).
If that's not the case, please discuss if you have noted any difference |

there's a bit more to it than that, meany -- "Block MOde" + "Script MOde"; here's some testimonials (from Harmony Central users):
"The Script mode is the real deal, dripping with vintage mojo." ... "I was a bit skeptical, but the new Dunlop EVH nails the sound! Side by side, in script logo mode, it sounds exactly like my original. The "modern" mode of this pedal is really just a more intense version of the same sound. This is wonderful, because it is just what I wished my original could do." ...
"At first I was thinking that this was just another orange phase 90 with a cool paint job and a new blue light...
Well , I was wrong, this phaser sounds a LOT smoother than my orange phase 90 in the script mode and to be honest, I think it sounds better in the block mode also.
It is very quiet, and it just sounds amazing!"
"This musical unit has ability to switch between the 70's script logo Phase 90 and the more modern Block logo Phase 90. The Script setting is quite a bit smoother in the upper register harmonics."
and, a whole bunch more info/reviews here:

pricey little pedal, tho, isn't it? |

Type in Phase 90. Click on the Frankenstrat pedal and go to product reviews. A lot of these guys who have bought both claim it's just the packaging (stripes) and that there is no difference in sound between the orange and the Frankenstrat.
Guess it's the guitar/amp combo along with a critical ear to decide if there is enough difference to justify the cost difference. |

But ... Musician's Fiend is for suburbanite music teachers and spoiled-kids + their loose-pocket parents. myself, i'd never set foot in one of those places, let alone bother to read what those folks think of the latest overpriced, GUH-ROOOVIE-looking mass-marketed thingie "ya just gotta have, kids" ...
sorry. it's the truth, ya know. and, I like my crummy, old nonstriped pedals just fine. but, many years ago, i once EVH-striped a pal of mine to his bed as he slept (passedout), using red black & white vinyl tape. now, *that* looked cool. |
