Hello all,

I'm relatively new, as you can see by my amount of posts, but those posts were mainly involved in the Trading section of this site. I've been a VH fan since 1980, and my favorite tour has always been the Fair Warning Tour 1981. I'm curious as to what other fans feel is their favorite as well.

I like what I've heard of the Fair Warning tour but I'm also partial to the 1989 OU812 tour.

Fair Warning is the best no doubt. I'm actually partial to the boots from the 98 tour, best setlists no doubt of any era. Best Hagar era tour was the RHRN tour IMO.

"Hide Your Sheep" tour, because of "Somebody Get Me A Doctor / I'm So Glad" and because the South American Shows were, in my opinion, the pinnacle of Van Halen. Not only did those shows bring back the Fair Warning material in Mean Street and So This Is Love, throw in all of those covers, bringing back songs like "Little Dreamer," doing incredible and long SGMAD/I'm So Glad jams...amazing.

When you think about it, SGMAD/I'm So Glad was the one song that truly was different on each 1982-83 recording.

I agree with that. I loved Garys reditions of Daves songs. His Hagar could do with some work. But altogether he did a good job i think.

Since VH only visited the UK on the following tours.....

1978
1979
1980
1984
1993
1995

and I missed the 1st two as I was too young, I am going to have to go by bootlegs to decide this one.

Dave era - Fair Warning
Sammy era - RHRN

I am also a big fan of the 98 tour because of the great set lists and because they varied them each night. Ed's playing was tight and powerful, unlike in recent times :(

On a personal level, the WACF tour was life altering for me, cos it was my first ever concert, nothing has ever had quite the impact that gig in Birmingham 25 years ago had on me since!

Worst tour???.....easy..... last years 'take the money and run' tour.

Chris.

I guess the "Fair Warning" tour from the Dave era
and the OU812 tour from the Sam era.

I would say `82's "hide your sheep" but that was the first concert I ever went to, so it has some bias to it.

someone mentioned in this thread that they liked the way Gary did Dave material, but not they way he did Sammy's stuff....just as my personal opinion, I thought the exact opposite when I saw that tour. Again, that's just my simple opinion.

I have never heard a show from the 1998 Tour at all so I never heard what Gary Cherone sounded like. I'm getting more into the Sammy years these days as I'm joining Trees with his stuff on them.

I would have to agree with the Fair Warning tour, primarily because of what Lou described with the "Somebody Get Me a Doctor/I'm so Glad" jam... it was just so different from any other shows that I have heard.

But, I do have to say that recently I've really be enjoying some 1979 stuff, when the band is preparing to go on tour for the second album and is debuting tracks from VHII.

Gary Cherone sounded like crap. In my opinion, he was trying to sound like Sammy and didn't do a very good job of it. Although, the set list kicked butt.

I was too young to see any of the Roth era tours in person, but my favorite boot is Largo from the "Hide your Sheep" tour. Great set list!!
