I was a big King's X fan and was anxious for their second album to be released (I don't think it was out yet or it was just released I can't recall). I wanted to go so bad that I bought my roommate his ticket. The day of the show came and neither of us felt like going. It had been overcast all day giving us a bummer mood. My roommate just got off work and was tired. We both felt tired and not in the concert mood. We went anyway. Got down to the Cubby Bear (a hole in the wall) and then the show started. King's X ROCKED! They were awesome and after the show we got to talk with the drummer. One of the greatest concerts I've ever seen to this day.

Fantastic band.... such a shame they never got the recognition they deserved.

First time I saw them was on the Faith Hope and Love tour in Nottingham 93ish? Not a big venue, but they packed it out and you could see how blown away the band were by the audience reaction. They played a very long set that night as they just kept comming back for encores. Seen em 2 or 3 times since.... always a good vibe at their shows, no matter what size the audience is.

Although I was just a Sophomore, like her brother, I had been to 10 concerts, probably.
Yet this was the first concert my Mom ever drove me to. She dropped me and my bestfriend at the front doors to Hara Arena, and when we got about half way to the doors from the car, she stuck her head out the car window, and we could hear her crying and begging us, "Please get back in the car...Gary, please get back in the car....PLEASE don't go in there...PLEASE! Please! Please"
She was intimidated by the "looks" of some of the people waiting to get in...and all the whiskey bottles and beer bottles smashed and laying on the concrete.
She embarrassed the hell out of her little boy, and we did get back in the car.( I mean she was crying big-time!)

Although I was embarrassed and mad as hell....20 years later we still bring it up, yet we crack-up laughing abou it....we actually brough it up 2 weekends ago...too funny!

oh my god...this is friggin hilarious!!! straight out of a movie!!!!!

this is mainly the reason why i never went to show until i was 16 and able to drive myself...

great story!!!

The show that unexpectedly blew me away was when I went to see Lynyrd skynyrd at Canada's Wonderland in Toronto in the early 90's. To tell you the truth the only reason we were going was to see Ted Nugent. Well wouldn't you know that Ted Nugent couldn't make the show. We didn't find out till we got to the park. Bad Company replaced them. You can imagine the disappointment, but we figured we would check out the show anyway. The opening act was amazing. And I'm not talking about Bad Company. Half way through their set this crazy haired, beer drinking redneck in a fedora introduces himself as Zack Wylde and busts out an Ozzy tune. We were dumbfounded. Pride and Glory rocked the place. Next came Bad Company. They were actually quite good. But then came Skynyrd. I have never before or since seen a band that were as tight and calm as they were. They were incredible. And the whole experience was a surprise. We were expecting the worst when Mr. Nugent cancelled but it turned out amazing. Other shows of note have been The Tragically Hip - Another Roadside Attraction in Barie, Ontario (you americans don't know what your missing). Big Sugar (RIP). Great Big Sea - I have seen these guys several times but even though they are accoustic they are the best show I ever saw, VH couldn't even come close to these Newfoundlanders live. And Robert Michaels. Check him out.

The concert that blew me away was when my older cousin and her boyfriend offered to take me and my 2 friends to US '83. Here we are three 15 year old boys going to see Metal history and going to see VH, Scorpions, Triumph, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue & Joe Walsh... Quiet Riot was added about 1-2 weeks before the actual show and moved Joe Walsh to another day. WE WERE STOKED!!!!

To this date almost 22 years later and I can still picture everything. We left the night before and stayed at a parking lot about 5 miles away (this is where the venue placed us) and we stood up all night long watching everybody party and we were just in shock with all the drunks and seeing 1/2 naked girls running around. The morning came and we all started to walk to the venue but at this point we just followed the crowd and had no idea where we were going or how far we had to go. We walked and it seemed we were never going to get there and all of a sudden a pick up truck pulls up and offers rides to the venue for $1 a person. There must of been 20 people in the back of the truck and myself and 2 friends were standing on the back bumper for our lives.. They dropped us off right across the 15 fwy and now we had to run across this fwy to get to the venue. We ran our ass off and it seemed like we were the real life Frogger arcade game.

We finally get to the venue and when we finally get in all I see is these booths all over the place and then you look to the right of you and all you see this HUGE screen and on the other side of that was an ocean of people.. I have never seen anything like it to this date and if I remember right they said there was 350,000 people there that day. We walk to join the crowd and we couldn't wait to see Quiet Riot and on the way there we see these showers with people cooling off and 1/2 and fully naked women (we were in puberty) all in the showers and at times we saw people having sex.

We watched every band from start to finish and seeing all these bands on the same day was the most incredible thing. For us this was Heavy Metal history!!! This is something I will never forget and it wasn't only for these great bands but for the overall experience. The $4 hamburgers, $2 sodas, the heat, the sun, the crowd, the music, the girls and hanging out with my 2 best friends and watching out for each other making sure nothing happened to each other... PRICELESS!!!!!! :thumb:

I agree with ya Chris. They were one of the tightest bands I've ever seen. They were hot. After the show everyone was crowding around the Bass Player as he was trying to make his way to the back of the club. I recall he kept saying that he was just trying to get to the back to see his mom, who was at the show. The drummer walked right out side and was waiting at the light to cross the street which was where my buddy and I ran into him and talked to him for a few moments. Basically we told him that we thought the show was awesome. He politely thanked us. We exchanged a few pleasantries and then were off on our way. We both said on the way home that although we weren't in the mood for the show we were extremely happy we went and were completely blown away. Such a great band.

How about
Rough Cutt opening for Dio in 85, Sam opening for ZZ Top in 83 and Gary Moore opening for Def Lepp in 83. Maybe it was the cigarettes at the time, but those are still memorable today to me.

My first concert was David Lee Roth and Cinderella in 1986. I was 12 and had no idea what to expect. The show completely blew me away. The energy was just incredible.

I have been obsessed with DLR and Classic Van Halen ever since. I just can't get enough of the stuff!!

I am so glad that I found this site with other people that feel the same way. :D

My 1st Rock concert was the 1987 Motley Crue GIRLS Tour. The opening
band that night blew me away and left an impression on me that I will
never forget. That "opening act" was GUNS N ROSES................Nobody
even knew who they were. I can remember AXL saying
"You fu%#ers will know us next time". Boy was he right.

The only thing I can remember from the Crue's set that night was
Tommy's drum solo over the crowd!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was JACKYL

I saw Jackyl in 1994 opening for ZZ Top in Dallas. They were and opening act, and I was a casual fan, but to this day, that was the best show I've seen. Every song had great audience participation parts. Jesse Jame DuPree broght a little kid out of the audience on his shoulders and gave him a guitar to jam with the bad. And he gave a damn funny speach about a Prince Albert hand-rolled cigarette that was thrown on stage. He perfomed the song Redneck Punk whild riding a mechanical bull with a giant dog's head on it without missing a beat, and cut up everything on stage with a chainsaw. All of this accopanied a flawless performance of all the songs with great sound and light. Fan-friggin-tastic.

I knew very well who DP was, and I very much wanted to see the show.
However, this concert completely blew me away, more than any show I had ever seen.

I had never seens anyone sing that way, nor had I ever seen anyone play guitar that way.
(at that point in time I think I had seen VH 3 times, Triumph 2 times, Rush 2 times, and others.)

I've been a die-heart fan ever since.....

Any similar experiences out there?

i saw that tour
my dissapointment with that tour was when ritchie did his solo he clicked on something and because i was beside the stage i saw a lil tent dohickie with a tape setup. so some of the solo was added from the tape.big disapointment for me.

Great story and completely believable ... one clarification ... Tommy did not go over the audience on the Girls, Girls, Girls tour ... that was the Dr. Feelgood tour. The Girls, Girls, Girls tour his drum set stayed over the stage but rotated every which way. I didn't realize Guns ever opened for Motley. Interesting. The Feelgood tour was great though.

It was my first concert (Cheap Trick, UFO, RUSH). Late 1977, Baltimore Civic Center, RUSH, Farewell to Kings Tour. Cheap Trick wasn't bad. UFO came out and their sound and light show were both great. It was their Lights Out Tour and Schenker was still w/them at the time. Then....RUSH hits the stage and blew Cheap Trick and UFO away. The sound and light show were AWESOME. One show I will never forget.
