Cool thread. I've seen so many concerts it's hard to keep track. Lasting impressions would definitely include my first show ; Dec. '76. I saw Aerosmith with special guests Rush at the Montreal Forum. I went for Aerosmith, but Rush blew me away. I've seen every Rush concert in Montreal since except one.
Halen shows from '79 to '04 throughout Ontario, and Quebec. The all-time greatest was April '84. Front row tix, plus got to hang out backstage after meeting Al, and Ed in their downtown hotel. Still got my backstage pass, picks, and an autographed pack of smokes hanging proudly on my wall in the shadow box. That one is goin' in the grave with me !!
Other great shows would include Maiden on their "Beast on the Road" tour, ( great energy for a first tour with Bruce), and Queen at the Montreal Forum in '80, ( incredible show).
SRV's first show in Montreal on the "Texas Flood" tour was amazing. Went by myself 'cause I couldn't convince any of my friends to come and see this "unknown guitarist" !!
U2 on the "Unforgettable Fire" tour in Montreal was great. Best U2 show I've ever seen. Genesis on the "3 Sides Live" tour at Jarry Park in Montreal was also cool. I could go on for hours about so many good shows. I'll have to sit down, and think about some more. Oh yeah, AC/DC in '80 on the "Back in Black" tour was awesome. A lot of this seems so far away now. A hell of a lot of good times though. :thumb: |

Wow, cool thread.
I'm a big Rush fan, I've seen them every tour since "Hold Your Fire" in Toronto and Buffalo, and they have never dissapointed me.
Other than Van Halen and Rush, the band that left me wanting more was Pink Floyd. I saw their 3 night stand in Toronto at the CNE July 5,6,7 1994 - all from different perspectives.... from 90th row floors the 1st night, to 15th row floors the 3rd. These shows just blew me away... |

Be grateful it was only lemonade  Plastic beer bottle fights were standard at UK festivals in the 80s.....of course the beer was long since drunk, and the restrooms were too far away if you had a good spot. You can work the rest out for yourself :o |

Ahh the bottle fights at Castle Donnington 1984 spring to mind....... great fun, but I did get showered in piss a couple of times though  I know that some people would pay good money for that down Soho, but it wasnt my kind of thang LOL!!
There is a little bit off footage of one of the bottle fights in the middle of the HFT footage on 625/50 PAL Rarities......... they banned bottles a few years later!

Ok...you guys are gonna laugh me off this thread because you all are listing some fairly HEAVY stuff here. In my younger days, I was all over heavy...wouldn't have been caught dead listening to anything that ever go radio play except for the occasions pre-1984 Van Halen tune. However, one Sunday morning a buddy of mine and were nursing hangovers and cruising around town flipping through the entertainment section of the local newspaper when we hit the concert listings. We usually cruised to Austin for shows, but happened to see a Sunday night show listed for Reunion Arena in Dallas. The band: Power Station. The price: $15. The possiblities for a roadtrip: endless. The result: not what I expected.
I was really blown away. The two guys from Duran Duran (John Taylor on bass and Andy Taylor on guitar) flat out rocked. I believe it was Tony Thompson on drums? And Michaels DesBarres on vocals (Robert Palmer did not do the tour). Quite a show...dancing girls, the whole bit...and to only about a half-full arena. They did some stuff off the Power Station album...some Duran Duran stuff, but completely re-arranged, and some classic Zep and stuff. But the best part was when they did a medley of songs the DesBarres had written for other people...most of them Top 10 or Top 5 hits, but they definately put a hard edge on them.
Great show...and one of those that blew me away because I was expecting ZERO, and got very pleasantly surprised. |

Hey Whitejo,
No laughing here. The POWER STATION was killer for what they did.Unfortunately, I never got to see them.
Sometimes seeing bands you wouldn't expect anything killer from blow you away. I have been to tons of shows that weren't in the rock/metal genre and had a great time (free tickets helped). It's ultimately about entertainment. If a band or singer puts on a great live show and ENTERTAINS an audience, that's cool. I have had my share of seeing shows that were horrible as well. So,if the show was great.cool!
Take care,
Kenny |

I believe Palmer died of a heart attack last year. |

The Power Station musicians(especially Bernard and Tony from Chic) were awesome. And Andy Taylor, who later put out some solid solo albums, really started to come into his own.
Anyway, it was a rainy Monday night in May of 1994. I lived about 45 minutes from the venue, and I about didn't go to the show. It was truly miserable out. I invited a couple of my buddies to meet me at the club, so if the band sucked, it wouldn't be a totally wasted night. I had the opening band's EP(Wool) and they had a couple good songs. They were pretty good even though there was nobody at the show. Maybe 30 people.
The headliner, House of Pain had cancelled the show, so here comes Rage Against The Machine. I have to tell you NO ONE was prepared for this assault! No one there expected much of anything and they opened up with "Bomb Track". You could look around and see jaws dropping all over the club. The jaw dropping quickly turned into disbelieving smiles. How was it that this incredible band is playing in this crappy bar in Charlotte, NC on a horrible rainy night? They proceeded to, as Letterman would say " blow the roof off the dump". They played a full set and the band was as intense as they were on the sold out Lollapalooza Tour a couple of monthes later. |

Unexpectedly??
Two come to mind...
I went to a small club show in the late 80's that featured the Killer Dwarfs and a band called Seduce (they were featured in the Decline of the Western Civilization the metal years). Both bands were great.
More recently, on Audioslave's first tour, Burning Brides opened for them and I thought they were incredible. |
