|
|
Launch Radio Networks reports: Last year's VAN HALEN reunion tour thrilled fans around North America, but things were not quite as euphoric inside the band. Bassist Michael Anthony told Launch that guitarist Eddie Van Halen's continued drinking made things a bit erratic and seems to have halted plans for future touring. "I hate to talk smack about anyone in the band or whatever, but, y'know, Eddie, you know, he's still doing a bit of drinking and everything," he said. "There were nights where it was kind of like a rollercoaster, up or down, and myself, I would have liked to have seen him totally clean up if we were gonna take this further and, like, 'cause, gosh, we could've gone all around the world with it."
VAN HALEN put three newly recorded songs on its 2004 compilation, "Best of Both Worlds", but no future recordings or tour plans have been set.
Anthony and VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar are on the road together with the Cinco de Mayo tour, which features Hagar and his WABORITAS, as well as LOS TRES GUSANOS, a side band Hagar and Anthony put together with WABORITAS drummer David Lauser. |

I've met Michael three times. He's one of the nicest most respectable "rock stars" I've ever met.
He's never said anything negative about The Brothers in past.
When comments like this are made public...it doesn't look like all is well or too promising at 5150 does it? :(   :furious: :sus: :uhoh: :irked: :yell: |

| I think Anthony is right, though. Eddie's drinking is the root of the problem right now and his stopping can only make things better within the band. |

Whereas I agree with you what I do find shocking is that Mike actually said it and said it in public. I have always thought that he was kindda quiet and didn't speak ill of anyone from the band. I don't remember him speaking any smack about David when he left or Sammy when he left the first time. Mike seems to keep thing to himself and for him to say this public really mean something, to me anyway. |

Mike seems to be a classy guy. Keep in mind that he never wanted to blow a good thing. |

| A buddy of mine and I have this conversation often. Mike is the "good soldier" in that he will never do anything to upset the generals that are the Van Halen brothers or whoever the lead singer is that week. I don't mean that negatively. Mike is perhaps the smartest guy in the band from the standpoint of he knows he's got a good thing going with VH so why blow it? It doesn't get any better than this! Nothing much seems to bother Mike. He just lets it all roll off him. I wish I had that character trait! Having said that though, it would appear that even Mike is at his wits end with the band. Like FrankM said, once Mike starts talking about it, Van Halen fans are in trouble. When Mike first started to tour with Sammy a few years ago, people were surprised. Mike almost never did anything musically outside of VH. Soon after, the band got back together with Sam. Mike is the subtle link that keeps this band together. Notice when Mike went on the Same and Dave tour, he never played with Dave. That alone speaks volumes. Now maybe Dave didn't want to jam with Mike either; I'm just sayin. I would love to read an interview with Mike where he just spills it all. It would probably the most honest telling ofthe VH saga we would ever get from a VH member. |

I would too. But he wouldn't unless he was sure the VH brothers wouldn't sue his pants off.

Geez, talk about minimizing a problem. When MA says that EVH is "still doing a bit of drinking" that's like me saying I've been doing a bit of breathing today.

| With the rumored box set coming out later this year, I could see it happening where they could stage a Crue-esque reunion, make a ton of cash, but still hate each other the whole time. |

What will never happen? Eddie will drink his ass off. He even showed up to Dimebag Darrells funeral pissed, and it was Zakk Wylde who was angry.

well i dont think Mike's really done any damage by making a statement like that simply becoz everyone knows Eddie's a drunk. Most of you have been to the reunion shows and noticed Eddie pretty wasted at quite a few of the shows...for Mikey, its not as if he's disclosing a big secret....Eddie's alcoholism is a well publicized fact
Look at this thread if you need more proof
