First off, big thanks to Chris for providing this set. Our authors are invaluable. After the preliminaries, I've included his description of the disks so you can see what's here.

Second, due to some recent occurances, I'm tightening up the rules a bit for this tree. I apologize to anyone who might normally have been able to sign up and I don't plan on doing this once things cool down.

Signup rules: You must have been a member here for three months prior to todays date (5/11/05) and have at least 30 posts in the forums. There will be NO waiving of requirements by signing up as a branch.

Please include the normal stuff when you signup. I will keep this open for about a week, closing signup at midnight (EST) next Wed. night.

OSKY PRODUCTIONS – VAN HALEN - RARE ROTH RE-MASTERS

Total Running Time – 129M
2 Discs
Format – NTSC DVD
Authored on a Philips DVDR75 stand alone recorder. Thumbnails for each title and chapter points at the start of each song.
Re-mastering done with GTH Electronics ACE converter/timebase corrector + Tascam 6 ch audio mixer
Bit Rate - 9m/b sec approx.

Disc 1 (64M)

1. Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY 13/11/82 41M – aud HH (rather shaky!) – fairly low gen B+ – this needed a lot of colour correction as the original was very green (camera set up incorrectly I would guess?), the colour is still a long way off what it should be, but I think its better. Starts with Ice Cream Man and runs through to the end of the set, so you get all of Ed’s solo.

2. Paliebro, Caracas, Venezuela 16/1/83 – 20M – TV VERSION – please note this is the edited broadcast version of this gig. It differs greatly from the BTB version of the raw un-edited footage. In this version you get full length – Romeo Delight, Unchained and Jamie’s Cryin which aren’t on the BTB version. Plus clips of Secrets, Bass solo, Drum solo and Happy trails/YRGM. I have edited this together from 2 different sources, one B+ the other B. It’s a bit glitchy, but I have never seen this footage anywhere else before.

3. Pretty Woman – San Remo Festival Italy 1982 – 3M - This is a lip-sync performace that you may well have seen before, BUT this is sourced straight from a PAL VHS TV master so the quality is a straight A.

Disc 2 (65M)

1. Ibirapuera Gymnasium, Sao Paulo, Brasil - 21/1/83 – TV VERSION – 47M – this is the TV edit of what you may have on the BTB full gig version (which incidentally, I did all the re-mastering on, if you have the 2 disc version). So why would anyone want this version? Well mainly, the colour on this version is much better. You also get a bit of pre-show footage and interviews (in Portugeese) with fans. The footage is still fairly generated, but not bad, I give it a B+. There is about 10 mins where there is a hum bar in the background (lines rolling up the pic). The editing for TV is fairly heavy and many tracks are cut short.

2. Charleston Civic Center, Charleston, WV - 20/5/81 – 12M – aud HH 8mm film footage – this was originally silent footage, but someone has dubbed audio from the LP versions of the songs in the background. Not the greatest footage in the world, but seeing as though 1981 stuff is so thin on the ground, its worth a look IMO. Quality, probably B- (8mm film is never that great at the best of times).

3. Japaneese TV 1978 – You Really Got Me (lip-sync) and interview – 6M – this has to be their earliest TV performance that has survived the years. Ed has his Frankenstrat with its original white body with black stripes (a la 1st LP). Cheesy stuff, very funny! Quality is pretty good considering its age, probably 3rd gen, I’d give it an A-.

Chris, thanks again!
