I've disabled the ratings system on this board until further notice. There's been too much misuse and abuse, and many members have been given a zero rating for no good reason.

In the future I may implement a positive "reputation" points sytem, where you can give someone a point for being a good trader, for sharing or treeing out a show, or whatever, but no negative points can be given.

I think you should abandon a point system altogether. Because then you can just have people giving their friends positive points, and even worse, have people sign up a bunch of usernames and give himself/herself points.

I think the Recommended Traders and Traders to Avoid sections are all that are needed.

Well i guess that eliminates the nessecity of a rating of 3 or higher for trees.

I agree. Instead of just a number, people will know why a trader is recommended or to be avoided.

I was wondering what was going on. I was just trying to rate Yerfdog and Live Showz a '5' for excellent trading and noticed the rating system was gone. Now the question is, how do we get reliable devoted members in trading/signing-up for trees? There has to be some kind of system we can use. Maybe an idea thread for a system can be started with voting afterwards.

Since people have to be here for at least 3 mounths, maybe a requirement could be to furnish 1 or 2 references. It shouldn't be too hard to get one or 2 trades in the first 3 mounths.

I think keep the rating system, but have the rating system more detailed.

Maybe have

(i.e.)

RATING -- TRADER who posted rating -- TRADER own rating DATE POSTED -- COMMENTS 1st trade, or quick ship, fuji media used

Something like this or maybe even more detailed to measure credibilty among people
who are leaving ratings. Any fool can make up a fake account and go off. But, if the tracking can be more involved the ratings will not be distorted.

ANYONE agree or disagree here?

Just an idea..

Is there any way to put a post count limit on people that leave a rating? maybe 5 or 10 posts. That might cut down on people creating fake accounts just to leave a bad rating.

Personally, I don't think there is a need for it. Those of us who are here frequently enough know the good traders. If you don't, you ask. It's pretty simple, methinks.

Now if I could just get the opinion of Ozman, or ozzman, orozzman hater, or someone, or whoever the heck started this mess.....

I think word of mouth (keystroke) is plenty.

Well then we might need a new forum for asking about members....and might even need a better way to search/sort the information... Right now if I search for "Yerfdog" (as an example), I'd have to weed through a lot before I figured out that you were a good trader.
Yerfdog - Search found 552 matches

I guess a couple of narrower searches tells the story though:
Yerfdog - Search found 59 matches in Recommended Traders
Yerfdog - Search found 4 matches in Traders to Avoid

My name has more interesting results...
ron - Search found 4 matches in Recommended Traders
ron - Search found 2 matches in Traders to Avoid

With the number of matches being lower, it's harder to tell what the true story is...

My personal opinion on this whole Ratings Isuue is this.....Im glad its gone. I have never been a fan of the system. The Reason, the very fact Scott just shut it down...abuse!!!

I personally never used it to base my trades on. If i was trading with a new trader i didnt know, i made them send first or no trade. Thats the only way you can be sure the trader wouldnt rip you off. It works, i have used this system for a long time and have never had any issues.

Now I realize that some new traders have nothing to trade. So they have to offer blank trades, or even buy from ebay. But we all have to start somewhere.

i Like the idea of word of mouth and the traders to avoid or recomended traders section we presently have.

REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!

just my 2 cents

Peace All

I tend to think that the only way the ratings system would work is if there was something like a 3 month requirement before you could rate someone.

However, if someone has been here that long they'll probably contact people directly if there's a problem.

The rating system should just be canned and stay that way. I never use it as a guage for "Trade Safety".

IMHO
