"If you can copy a CDR, then your computer skills are good enough to make wav files into FLAC files. PERIOD. caps?
people are so afraid of technology & learning somthing new. It's sad, because it's so easy...."
Steecoe, I burn on a stand alone phillips burner, NOT hooked up to my computer at a measley 2x speed. Nothing "sad" here, and Im not "afraid", all i want to do is spread around a new VH show! Personally, Im glad to get anything new, any format at this point. I dont think you should judge me, when Im not familiar with this, nor do I have the time or intrest in this at this point. If enough people need these in this format, why cant I put a branch in charge of this? Give a guy a break, all Im trying to do is help, not avoid!

I wasn't judgeing you, hell you are most likely a better human being than I am -- I am just an f'n loser who loves VH & cares about quality.
I am all for sharing the shows, but I am more concerned about sharing the best quality copies that can be obtained. I don't do much trading at all because I usually get the short end of the stick, I have piles of VH CDs that I have gotten in trades that I consider garbage (pisspoorly mastered or full of gaps & glitches) & won't trade out.
My statement was directed at most people in general, and I still stand by my opinion because its based on witnessing that attitude.
It wasn't exactly clear to me that you meant that you don't have a CD burner in your computer. That's a little different...
That being said, I'll take care a FLAC branch. I could send the FLAC files to anyone of the branches that would want it in that format regardless if their leaves want it on CDR or FLAC.
I would prefer to convert the show to FLAC from your discs rather than another copy -- but thats up to you.
My apologies if I sounded like I was attacking you on a personal level...My people skills are at an all time low these days :uhoh: |

my appologies guys as I am also learning this process.
What are FLAC cds good for? Why would we want them in that format?
Again I am just asking because I am trying to figure out how to convert some FLAC cds to WAV so I can burn them for myself.
Sorry for the dumb questions but I am trying to learn this also.

Each time you extract and copy an audio CD, you have a great potential to corrupt the audio. milliseconds of audio at the start and ends of the discs can easily be lost unless you have your offsets properly set. If you don't use something like EAC, each time you extract the audio from the discs, it'll most likely be different.
FLAC is a lossless compression technology (like SHN) that allows you to distribute audio CDs as data, which can be easily copied and shared, as well as verified.
To get to FLAC, you extract the audio CD using EAC with properly set offsets as WAV files. Then you compress the WAV files with a FLAC compressor (FlacFrontend, or other). Once in FLAC format they are smaller than WAV files and have checksums built in to assure file intregity.
The reason for making FLAC files from the master discs, is that each time audio CDs are copied, an additional digital generation is added to the source. These generations will most likely be missing small sections of data at either the beginning of the first track, or the end of the last track if the extraction offsets aren't properly set. Also, other assorted problems can occur, like the copy be burned too fast, gapped, or worse.
FLAC (or SHN) files from the original source are the best way to assure that everyone gets an exact copy of the source.
Hope that helps. |
