Hello all!
Well where to start. I go on various message boards for different bands I enjoy but today I was listening to Van Halen and though, I bet theirs a forum out their for Halen fans. And so I ended up here. No found my way arround yet. I've read the FAQ, always a good place to start, and from the posts I've glanced through so far this looks a very friendly place.
I'm Mark, I live Nr. Preston in the UK. For those that know the UK I live just outside Garstang, which lies between Lancaster and Preston.
I'm 22 but still a student because I'm doing a second Degree in Photography. My first Degree was in Computing (Forensics) which sounds all CSI but for alot of the time wasn't. Now I'm a part time Photographer, part time Computer Technition whilst doing this second Degree.
I'm into aircraft, in particular, Military Aircraft, and this is my main photographic area taking pictures for book, mags etc. For this reason, Dreams is my favorite VH vid :D
Untill a year ago I did Skydiving, this was untill I ran out of money. This also explains the "Maniac" part of my username :D

Well that's me, I look forward to getting to know you all.
Mark

Thanks for the welcome guys! One further thing to add, I've currently no VH bootlegs but have lots by other bands such as Metallica, which I see some people are trading. I've not yet figured out how these work but I'll happily post links to stuff I'm currenty hosting. Been reading the rules. I believe I have to wait 3 months to get stuff but I take it I can post links before this as I rotate stuff?
Cheers,
Mark

Welcome aboard Mark... If your looking for certain shows you might want to offer a 2:1 if you don't have anything to trade... Ory

Out of interest do many people trade on here through MP3s or is everything done by CD? Cds just seem like such a long winded way of trading when audio tracks can be uploaded to the net!
Thanks,
Mark

Hey Mark - mp3's are a big no-no at this site. They pollute the trading pool with an inferior product. An excellent way of uploading/downloading music for trade is with flac or shn. If you're not familiar with them, just give them a google. With these formats, you can compress the audio without losing any quality. BTW, mp3's are fine for your own listening pleasure.

You can't argue with quality! So people trade FLACs around here then. What software do you to play them in, or do you just burn them to CDs. I've got a couple of shows in FLAC and couldn't play them so I was forced to convert then to MP3 ayway.
Many thanks,
Mark

Most of the FLAC/SHN trading is done via Bit Torrent but I have burnt several FLAC shows to one DVDR and sent the disc via standard mail. It is best to hold on to the FLAC for back-up, archival purposes and also for trading. There are a handful of players out there that will play FLAC but I listen to most of my FLAC/SHNs while at work so I have them on my hard drive and play them via Winamp, there's a FLAC dll plugin. MP3s may be fine for personal listening but they are highly frowned upon because they pollute the trading pool and are substandard but you seem to understand that so I won't bother going into it.

:D The shows were crowd recordings, and not that well done. I don't think listening to them in FlAC would have made much difference. Is their a plugin for Windows Media player to support FLACs does anyone know?

I don't know about WMP but there is for Winamp and in my opinion Winamp is a much better player. I still use the old 2.78 and 2.79 and think they are as great today as when they were first introduced. I use WMP for watching video but for playing music I prefer Winamp.
