Drummer Gregg Bissonette from the music video 'Just Like Paradise'

What you see above is what I believe to be the most ridiculous moment in music video history!

That still frame shot is of drummer Gregg Bissonette during the video for David Lee Roth's 80's hit "Just Like Paradise." I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that this "most ridiculous moment" would come from the 80's. Back in the day of Night Tracks and MTV actually showing music the world of music video was a developing art form that on many separate occasions fell off the wacky wagon into visual absurdity. But it's this clip that zooms by in under two seconds during a fully realized 4-plus minutes of music video strangeness that wins the prize!

In many ways "Just Like Paradise" is a study in weird 80's unnecessary music video shots. You have Steve Vai and his 478 neck guitar. You've got Roth rock climbing and in a makeshift floating boxing ring. You've got a levatating drum set and a jet-powered wire-suspended surf board that Roth rides off on at the end. But in the middle of all this is a brief, nearly subconscious scene, of a drummer inexplicably straddled sideways on an over-sized drum kit looking like Garth from Wayne's World playing his heart out.

Here is the video in all it's weird 80's glory. The most ridiculous moment in the history of music video comes at around the 3:10 mark.

I know! Now I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of stage gimmicks and accompanying pyrotechnics etc. Under the comments for this gem on YouTube you'll find many more "that was awesome dude" comments than "how stupid was that" replies. Despite my predisposition for being in the latter of those two groups I still stand by my belief that this is the most ridiculous moment in the history of music video.

Along with this brazen claim I offer a challenge for anyone out there to provide a better worse example. There is hours of hip hop video footage to choose from but I exclude any amateur clips because there are about a thousand Japanese folks that would own the drum straddling Garth dude 80's clip.

Here's one more screen shot just to remind all of you what you're up against if you try to trump my ace.

It's too bad they don't alter the set list a bit. I know they're doing a full Moving Pictures, but they could change the songs before and after.

Notes: Really great, energetic show from the rescheduled second show of their two night stand in Chicago.
A very nice recording; amazing what moving 20+ rows closer to the stage and some new wind screens can do for a recording.
The band gave out commemorative baseball hats with 'Rush 1974-2112' on the front and 'The Rain Date - RUSH - Chicago - 2010' on the back to every fan in attendance as a special thank you for coming to the rescheduled date.

Well...... here is an alternate recording done from Section 106 RowT Seat 16. It is a bit loud in parts and the first set I had some drunken buffoons behind me but what can you do? All in all it still came our really nice IMHO! If burning to CDR start Disc 3 with Track 14 Audience

Notes:
1) I had set my Limiter Switch to the On Position on my Edirol When I was ready to record,but unfortuneately,the limiter switch got turned off when it was in my Fanny pack.I was getting alot of red "Peaks" on my Edirol,and noticed the limiter off.So I turned it back to the "On" position.Unfortunately,this shut the deck off for a very short time.There is approximately 10-20 seconds of "Spirit Of The Radio" missing(After the 2 minute mark or so.Sorry about this!).Unless someone else uploads another copy of this show,this will have to do for now.

2) Quality is Excellent or Near excellent(Subjsective,of course).I was lucky not to have too many talkers,drunks,etc around me,so there is not a whole lot of crowd noise for the most part(At least during the music).Levels are quite high,but there is NO distortion.

Actually, here in Michigan, you still hear the Sammy VH quite a bit. Depends on the DJ as they have their favorites

Sorry to hear about your dad My sympathies to you and family

As for the Divorce part I recently finalized my divorce of 16 years The world is full of great women as I noticed that in my now 4 months as a single.Met some great women who love Van Halen too I believe that things happen in our lives for reasons and sets you on a different and better path.Be strong and I'm sure as myself you will get back on track and move on to meet somebody great for you and get all straightened out
