id='q-21196'><p>To all the guitar players on this site, your help is appreciated&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;</p><p>My son has started taking guitar lessons, so my wife and I want to buy him an acoustic guitar for Christmas.</p><p>Does anyone have any recommendations for a first time acoustic guitar that&#8217;s reasonably priced?</p><p>Also, I&#8217;ve been told that a dreadnought guitar will be too big for him. id='q-21226'><p>How old is your son?  I&#8217;d buy inexpensive first and then upgrade if he really takes to it.  I got my 11 yr old daughter a cheapo Gibson Maestro ($60 at Best Buy &#8211; includes gig bag &amp; instructional CD!) for Christmas last year and we&#8217;ve had no problems with it.  I&#8217;m glad we didn&#8217;t pay more, though, because she doesn&#8217;t play it much outside of her lessons and occasional noodling.<br

id='q-21240'><p>I would buy something inexpensive, but not cheap.  If you go cheap, and the instrument cannot be played properly, you&#8217;re just wasting money, and time.  No reason to spend a lot of money if your kid loses interest.  You can always upgrade later if your son really gets into it.  Take the EVH approach.  Look at what he started on.<br
