hi everyone,is there a way to know if a dvd is bad.what i mean is thati bought some fuji dvd+r dual layer and can’t burn the second layer,i always get a ERROR message at 51 or 52%i have tried with several programs such as IMGburn,nero and infrarecorder and can,t get the damn dvd to burn properly,helllllllllllllllllllllllllp!!!!

i would try another dvd burner if u can get someone to burn it for u..or maybe try another brand..if not take it back to the store and ask for a refund on defective disks…

you think it can’t be the burner?cause i burned lots of dual-layer this year with all the van halen show we had in 8.5 GB and it burned fine .oh well… anyway thank you for replying.

Hi François, I’d definitely try a different brand as well as trying them in a different burner like Lance says. I’ve been told by traders & read on various sites that the Verbatim +R dual-layer’s are the best out there. I’ve burned quite a few of them using IMGburn and never had a problem.

Francois, I agree with “dogtown”. I never have any problems with Verbatim +R DL discs. Yes, Verbatim might cost a bit more than Fuji but well worth it.

i bought Verbatim dvds and it burned fine.you know,sometimes i try to save some money but it ended that way this time.thanks for tips guys

I am by no means an expert but … the discs are called “Dual Layer” because they have two different “layers”. The lazer burns the information on the first layer and then I believe adjusts to a new angle for the second layer. I believe that is how the double capacity is acheived. Again I’m no expert on it so I’m not certain of all the details. I recall authoring a Dual Layer discs and not having the proper “Layer Break” and having problems burning the disc. I had to go back into the authoring program and specify where the “Layer Break” was to get a successful burn. Something like that anyway, it was a long time ago. Since you specified the error was around the 51 or 52 percent mark I started thinking of the layer break right away. I don’t know if that was the issue or not but it sounds like new discs fixed your issue.
