id='q-38569'>
OK, so I went out and bought an LG external Blu-Ray burner and some discs and I can’t figure out for the life of me how to burn one of these VH shows to the disc. Do I need special software? Do I burn it as a Data disc and drag and drop the BDMV folder onto the disc? My laptop says it can’t play Blu Ray, but will that stop it from burning the discs to watch on my TV? I brought the burner and discs into work and tried to get it to work and still nothing. I put in a blank disc and it keeps asking me to insert recordable media. I bought BD-R discs? I feel like I’m starting all over learning how to burn CDs again. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A buddy of mine bought an LG burner a few months back and went through hell trying to burn a disc. He finally gave up and bought some different discs and hasn’t had a problem since. I just emailed him to ask what discs he bought the second time.

Personally, I use Verbatim discs and have never had a problem with the Samsung burner I have.

I think blu-ray burning is going through the same growing pains that CD-R burning went through 15 years ago and DVD-R burning went through 10 years ago. For the first few years, it was kind of like walking through a minefield with compatibility issues lurking around every corner. And by compatibility issues, I’m not just referring to the media and burner not being compatible. It could be that the authoring program had some obscure setting that made it so the disc wouldn’t burn right … or if the disc did burn … some DVD players wouldn’t properly play the DVD. With CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, the kinks were eventually ironed out and things got standardized and the pitfalls gradually disappeared. I’m sure the same thing will happen with blu-rays – but we’re not there yet.
<hr

They’re Optical Quantum BD-R 4x single layer discs and the burner is an LG CP40NG10 if that means anything. It also came bundled with the Cyberlink software. I guess I’m going to have to buy more expensive discs to see if it will work. The only place in town that carries them is Best Buy and they’re $20 for 5 discs. The discs I bought were 10 for $9. I figured I would at least be able to burn a show or two and watch them. I guess not.<br
