My dvd recorder for my tv might be on the way out,so I thought I would go shopping for a new one. I must have been spending too much time down in the man cave and did not realize that they are hard to find now! Can someone give me a heads up on where I might find one that’s not $600 like on Amazon? I currently have a Toshiba DR430. Thanks for any help!

I’ve got one somewhere … haven’t used it in years though. I just read the article that Ron linked to and it sounds like you’ll probably have to go search at eBay or Craig’s List. I don’t have cable or satellite tv anymore – just old-fashioned $10 rabbit ears. I get around 50 channels with them, of which around half of them are worth not deleting from the tv’s playlist.

put a TV tuner card in your computer and record to a hard drive then burn a dvd ..

I usually just use my tv recorder to burn off racing shows,but a friend that lives a few towns over has a different cable company and snags some of the guitar center sessions shows,so It’s nice to have.

I spent the cash and bought a commercial grade Pioneer burner with a built in DVR drive. When I still had Comcast I found that a lot of the programs were blocked from being recorded when I used a disc, but for some reason, recording to the DVR worked. I mainly used it to record from OnDemand and for transferring old VHS tapes, since the DVR drive allowed me to edit the recordings. I don’t know if they make them anymore, but they sure are nice for transferring old tapes to DVD.
