Foreigner Downloads Smashes Records With Six RIAA Gold And Platinum Certifications

(May 6, 2014) – With ten multi-platinum albums and sixteen Top 30 hits, Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world, with a formidable musical arsenal that continues to propel global album sales, now exceeding 80 million. This week, Foreigner celebrates another milestone as six of their iconic anthems receive gold and platinum digital certification by the esteemed RIAA – more than any other of Classic Rock Radio’s Top 15 artists, including contemporaries Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Journey, and many more. On hand to commemorate this momentous occasion was Atlantic Records Chairman & CEO, Craig Kallman, who presented Foreigner’s founding member, Mick Jones, with multiple gold and platinum records.

So you are saying if fans choose to support their favorite bands by paying for their music they are stupid?? Because of that cheap skate mentality of todays fans is why the music business is in the sad state that its in.

I’ll admit … I am a cheap skate. But the reason I don’t buy new music is because so little of it appeals to me, I don’t even bother checking out any of the new stuff to see if it’s worth buying. So on top of the several hundred official release CDs of my favorite music (mostly from the ’70s) that I’ve bought, and all the ROIOs that I’ve downloaded – I’ve got plenty to keep me entertained.

I’ve owned this one forever. Don’t know if there was any other release ever worth getting.

No I am saying that if you choose to buy mp3s of of music that was released 30 – 40 years ago on record cassette and cd, then you are stupid. There is no way in hell that foreigner is more popular than all those others, no matter how many downloads of old songs they sell.
I won’t pay for an mp3 of shit I already bought because I am not stupid. I was theorizing as to why a less popular band would have sold more downloads than more popular bands.

FWIW, here in CT all of our rock stations seemed to have switched to classic rock. It’s all that is on the dial besides lite rock, pop and rap. One of the bands I consistently here on these stations is Foreigner. Even on the “Lite Rock” station, you know the shit they play in waiting rooms, it’s always a Foreigner song. Maybe people are hearing Juke Box Hero and going on line and downloading the album.

I saw Foreigner in Sep 77 at Western Michigan University and they totally kicked ass. The opener was one-hit-wonder Ram Jam who had the hit song “Black Betty.” Then it was Little River Band – who I had never heard of until then, but they were really good too. And then Foreigner came on and lit the place up.

In 1995, the company I was working for was hired to shoot a promo video at a nearby nudist resort. They put on a 2-day music festival dubbed “nudestock” and Foreigner headlined night 1. So here’s some stuff we shot with 2 cameras and edited on 3/4″ tape:

VH connection: the drummer in this clip is Ron Wiksow, who played in DLR’s band for Your Filthy Little Mouth tour in 1994.

Foreigner was my first concert, in 1985! Guiffria opened for them with a DLR wanna be lead singer…

Ok I’ll agree with you. That makes total sense. I went to a huge record store last week and saw they are back into vinyl again. They wanted 19.99 for what has been sitting in my room for decades that I bought for 7.99! More proof the music industry suits are totally lost.
