Wanted to get an idea how you guys prefer to enjoy your bootlegs. Do you like to hear all the sound nuances through headphones or do you just like to crank it through speakers?

I’ll be honest – I’m no audiophile. I use crappy earbud headphones or computer speakers when listening to my bootlegs. This is because I usually listen when I’m jogging or sitting at my computer. I rarely listen to boots in the car and I don’t listen to much of anything on a stereo system.

Don’t tell anyone, but the first thing I usually do it rip ‘em to mp3′s and dump them on my ipod… Lame, I know.

I think you’re in good company converting FLAC/WAV/SHN/etc to mp3 for personal use: I do the same thing while preserving the source files on separate media for sharing; no shame in that IMO

Just don’t share the mp3′s and always keep the source files. I usually convert the FLAC/SHN/APE to m4a’s and put them on my iPod. I then listen via speakers (old crappy ones but whatever. Sometimes I burn CDs to listen to in the car (again not the best audio system but whatever.

Of course I always keep the source files and never trade the lossy.

Almost always headphones or even earbuds. I think it helps improve almost any bootleg quality and contains the sound better. Hear more nuances.

I have 2 sets of headphones that are mastering quality. One is Bose and the other Sony. They both sound somewhat different and I have an old Sansui reciever that I bought at a yard sale for 20 $$ and It smokes the Sony and Kenwood “Surround Sound Digital” recievers I had. I thought my speakers were crap until I hooked up this stereo made between 1969-1971. And my speakers were not junk. This Sansui has only half the power of the others, but moves a lot of air, so I prefer “old Crappy” equipment myself.

I basically use Sony Headphones for all my Audio editing escpecially the syncing as you hear more details and once project is done then I hook up sound system and trash my ears..

Computer speakers, or CDs in the car. Very rarely (almost never) listen with headphones.
