I was at one of those shows when he did that. Which was funny, because while I instantly recognized the opening riff, Dave did as well, like IMMEDIATELY, and looked back at Eddie with dagger eyes, and Ed just winked at Wolfgang and that was that.
It’s good to know that Dave definitely is quite familiar with the complete Sam Halen discography.

Pete – I just watched the video that you provided the link for and I don’t hear or see what they’re talking about. Am I missing something? I play guitar and know 3/16. Where is it in the video? During the breakdown? If that’s where people think they’re they’re hearing it, it’s a BIG stretch. Where’s the admonishment from Dave? I don’t see that either. This seems like some wishful thinking from Sammy fans. I haven’t been to the Links, so I don’t know what more they’re seeing or hearing. But I don’t see or hear Mike and Sammy recording or playing with VH again if that’s where all of this is headed….

Oh. Ok. I understand what you were saying now. It still seems like a bit a of a stretch to me. Different key…. and Ed doesn’t stop after Dave waves his finger… I honestly think it’s nothing

There is so nothing in this thats it is funny. Dave is so into what he is saying (& about to say) I doubt he’s even listening to what Ed’s playing and even if he did, I doubt he’d wave his finger to stop Ed & I doubt Ed would’ve stopped (which he didn’t) anyway.

Actually it seems Ed starts slowly playing the Humans Being riff at the 3:00 mark, right at the break down. I agree with Dutchie, I doubt Dave noticed or even cared what Ed was playing.
This is coming from VHL where just about everyone there is creaming in their pants over any shred of a rumor that Sam is back in VH. It’s also ridiculous to think that even if Dave recognized that guitar riff that he must know the entire Hagar fronted VH discography.

It is laughable. Just simply clutching at anything. Moreover, why would it piss Dave off?

I think that connecting those “dots” is quite the reach.

I remember seeing this… not likely that Dave even knew what Ed was doing. No way Dave has memorized the entire Sammy catalogue, doubt he would recognize any song, much less a small piece of a song.

Ed played that riff many times during that break down during the past couple tours. It’s not Humans Being and Dave isn’t even reacting to the riff at all.

Count me in with the ‘this is nothing’ crowd.. to be fair the humans being riff isn’t as much of a riff as it is a chord progression… it’s playing a similar progression around the same tempo.. nothing more.

that’s exactly what I was thinking. very similar to HB…but more just same progression he’s jamming and filling time there..

the bigger question is…. Did EVH even realize that was Humans Being or just playing from muscle memory, etc.. no biggie either way
