OK, I just listened to the whole show from Nagoya and what the fuck is it with Roth and his bullshit screaming at the sound people?? Threatening to fire them over the PA/monitor levels?! Really? What an asshole. I love the guy in the band, but yelling out, “Turn up the vocal or you’re fucking fired!” is absolutely ridiculous. Dave’s vocals suck and it’s not the sound crew’s fault nor that of the “blowers” as he flipped out over in the past. Accept what you are and stop being a dick to people who have no control over your loss of ability. Christ…

I really think that’s just a part of Dave’s act…Big Man Dave, he knows the crowd will cheer him on

Maybe, Dave should show up for soundcheck, and these problems wouldn’t be a problem. Haven’t listened to Nagoya yet, but have listened to both Osaka shows.

I saw the show in Nagoya. Dave seemed to be happy from the beggining to the end.

Finally someone speaks out!! Dave NEVER cared about anyone except Dave. He is one of the biggest ego maniacs in music. Apparently he doesn’t listen or watch his performances after they happen. He is always blaming sound guys, the video screen guys, when he is the biggest problem with the show. He has become an embarrasment to one of the greatest bands of all time. The sad thing is he doesn’t give a shit. Someone made a comment in another topic he was off key, and how bad he now sings yet he was great? How can a singer be off key and be great? On one Japan show he didn’t even know the song was on the set list! He is totally unprofessional and cheating the fans who pay for a ticket. And whats with these stupid videos of him? First his sheep and now wrestlers? People pay for music at a concert not cheap Roth videos. Wake up Eddie!! Tell Dave improve his vocals or he’s fired, not the sound guys.

Unfortunately, Dave may not be able to improve his vocals. Age may have taken that ability away.

Ed can’t kick Dave out of the band. Too much of a shit storm would follow. If Dave’s voice is truly gone, then he needs to retire gracefully. He needs to do what Billy Joel said during the press conference for the Stone Music Festival.

I was hoping Dave’s voice would be better for the Japan shows, but it doesn’t sound any better at all. These recordings have the vocals way high in the mix, so Dave is loud and clear. I don’t know if there are any trained singers here at VHTrading, but Dave sounds pretty bad to me.

I listen to these shows and I cringe at certain points. It’s like listening to Ed on the 2004 tour playing so poorly. As a guitar player, I have a hard time watching or listening to the 2004 shows, because Ed is so off.

Maybe there is a reason Dave does not do sound check? Have you people asked him? As for complaining that Dave does not devote himself 100% to VH and does other stuff like the Roth Show, so what? Seriously, rather than be happy that VH is still playing shows in 2013, seem to be getting along, and releasing stuff on the Internet instead people complain. It is amazing.

It’s not unusual for a lead vocalist to skip sound check.

There are some aspects of Dave’s on stage performance that I don’t like. But I have never for a second thought it was anything other than his schtick. It’s totally contrived … it’s Dave … for better or for worse. Getting upset about it is like getting upset at Rodney Dangerfield for saying things like “I don’t get no respect” — when you know for a fact that he was greatly respected in the entertainment industry. You’re perfectly within your rights to do that – but it’s all an act.

EXACTLY!!! He’s been doing this in one form or another for his career…The sound, the blowers, his mic not working, he’s gonna fire the sound guys, he’s gonna fire the roadies, he’s gonna fuck their girlfriends….that act is who he is

The one that made me cringe the most was during the 2002 tour (I think it was 2002 anyway) when he’d take a whiskey bottle and pretend it was his dick and he’d beat off with it and splash whiskey all over some (typically hot) girl in the front row.

I don’t think it’s schtick at all. Its just Dave being Dave. All he ever cared about and will ever care about is Dave. Do any of his former band members talk to him? NO. How many have sued him? Its not schtick and its not being a clown. Its being ignorant to try and cover up the fact he has no voice. I am shocked at the amount of unsold tickets at the upcoming shows, the large amount of tickets being given away. I don’t think Eddies guitar playing is the problem. A pretty bad cd and a singer who can’t sing anymore is probably why. It’s a shame too cuz the rest of the band kicks ass. Eddies playing his best in years,Wolfie has really improved. I noticed a huge improvement in him on the Japan shows.

Going out with Tremonte seems to really have helped him grow as a bass player. The back up vocals are right on. Alex will always be Alex Mr. Steady, and then there’s the schtick.

Like jroundy said earlier he needs to retire. If he doesn’t then its all about ego and greed, not sctick.

If Dave retires, that’s the end of VH. I’d rather accept him for who he is today & keep VH together.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

Not trying to start crap – but did anyone else notice that the BG vocals sounded VERY different on these Japan shows that they did in 07-08? These sounded like Eddie and Wolf singing. 07-08…not so much.

Maybe not. Wolfie has said one day he wants to start his own band. What better way to get noticed than to warm up his dad and uncle Alex. Mike and Sammy come back, Eddies happy being on tour with Wolfie. Wolfie can come out and do a few tunes with Van Halen, and everyone lives happily ever after.

shtick: (noun slang)

1. (especially in comic acting) a routine or piece of business inserted to gain a laugh or draw attention to oneself.

2. one’s special interest, talent, etc.
