Take this down if it’s common knowledge..I have never heard this before..

Here’s a great, candid interview with Eddie Van Halen and Jas Obrecht on July 30, 1982. The topic of the full interview is the new album, Diver Down. Eddie calls Jas one summer night in 1982 after…

.
Interesting some of the comments at Youtube..

where’s the rest of the interview? i’ve been looking it for ages…i think he talks about randy rhoads, allan holsdworth and diver down in this one! thanks for the upload.
yes exactly. Ed said “huh, what was that?” about a 1000 times (but made me laugh). And interviewer (Jas) was pretty hard to take. He was very casual and mush-mouthed at times. Hard phone interview i suppose.
I have a portion of this interview as well. Before the start of this he plays his early demo of “Ripley” that was used in the movie “The Wild Life”, and of course later on, “Blood and Fire”.

EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”.

Think I got the full interview from VHT. I like how Ed goes over each song and even defends all the covers (at that point at least)

I bought this on eBay and put it out here at VHT. I just came across the original CD that I bought last weekend. It is an interesting interview. While he’s trying to find the “Jump” recording, he plays part of “Blood and Fire” as well. Always makes me think back to this soundtrack that Ed did and yet gets very little discussion.

If anyone is interested, here’s the full interview. It’s in mp3 format. It’s a telephone interview in the 80s recorded on a mircotape. I assume no one is worried about quality. ;)

I always crack up they have such a tough time hearing each other. At least in the beginning of it. Ed keeps saying “what’s that?” Jas is a mush mouth at times. Or just very casual and comfortable talking to EVH

I always heard it as Ed being partially deaf (trying to hear questions over the phone after a gig) and also not understanding Jas’ questioning. Regardless, I always like to hear the truth. Hearing things straight from the source, in the proper context with no filter…no room for interpretation. Good stuff. :)
