Mammoth WVH and Dirty Honey Postpone Tour Due to COVID Concerns

Mammoth WVH and Dirty Honey have postponed the start of their Young Guns tour due to concerns surrounding the nationwide spike of COVID cases.

“We take the health and safety of the bands, road crews, local venue staff and especially our fans very seriously,” notes a statement from the bands announcing the decision. “Due to an abundance of caution regarding the recent COVID surge, we have decided to postpone the start of the Young Guns tour to Feb. 20, 2022, in Denver.”

Performances from the Denver date onward will remain as originally scheduled. Postponed shows have been rescheduled to March and April. The co-headlining trek was originally supposed to launch Jan. 21 in Chicago. Only one concert, a Jan. 28 performance that was planned to take place in Portland, Maine, has been canceled, while three additional dates have been added to the tour.

“We played one co-headline show with Dirty Honey back in September,” Mammoth WVH leader Wolfgang Van Halen noted when the tour was announced in November. “As soon as the night was over, we knew this would be a great package to take across the U.S. We couldn’t be more excited to share the stage with them and give all of the fans an unforgettable night of rock music.”

“People who come to our shows are going to see two bands who are looking to prove that rock ‘n’ roll is definitely very much alive and well,” added Dirty Honey frontman Marc LaBelle. “We both carry the weight of that on our shoulders, and there’s a lot to prove.”

Three new shows have been added in Oklahoma City (March 12th); Pittsburgh (March 20th); and New Haven, CT (March 27th). Tickets for most cities are currently available via Ticketmaster, with the three additional dates going on sale this Friday, January 14th, at 10 a.m. local time.

I had wondered about that April 3rd date in Atlanta – and now it’s official. Postponed again, this time until April 12. Not COVID related, but GRAMMY related. Wolf is planning on being at the GRAMMYs that night. It’s only the 5th time the dates for this tour have been shifted around.

I really wanted to go to the opener in Denver, but I’d rather play it safe and not risk anything.

I hear/see that the playing card poster design is the clue. When Mammoth WVH is shown at the top for that date, they are the headliner. When Dirty Honey is shown at the top, they are the headliner.

Mammoth WVH Cancels Remaining Young Guns Tour Dates Due to COVID

Mammoth WVH has cancelled their remaining dates on the Young Guns tour after members of the band’s touring personnel tested positive for COVID.

“After an incredible weekend in Las Vegas with my family for the Grammys, I flew back yesterday to meet up with my band and crew in North Carolina to continue the Young Guns tour. This morning as everyone took COVID tests to re-establish the bubble that has served us on the tour, we came to find that members of our band and crew who didn’t travel with me were positive,” Wolfgang Van Halen explained via press release.

“I have tested negative via rapid and PCR tests for the last 5 days in preparation for the Grammys and still continue to do so,” he added. “With only 6 shows left in the tour, it breaks my heart that we unfortunately won’t be able to continue. Mammoth WVH will do our very best to make up the dates that we missed to the fans in those markets in the future.”

Dirty Honey, who has been co-headlining the Young Guns tour alongside Mammoth WVH, will still perform the remaining concerts as scheduled. Fans can request refunds for the affected shows at their point of purchase.

Mammoth WVH is still scheduled to return to the road for a string of U.S. performances running from April 29 to May 21, followed by dates overseas.

Mammoth WVH’s single “Distance” was nominated for Best Rock Song at the Grammys, but lost to Foo Fighters’ “Waiting on a War.” Despite the result, Van Halen tweeted that it was “such an honor to be nominated for the first song I ever released on my own, in a category with artists I’ve looked up to my entire life. I don’t know if that’ll ever fully set in. Pop didn’t win the first time he was nominated too, so it looks like I’m following in his footsteps quite nicely. Who knows what the future holds. All I know is I’m feeling pretty damn grateful. What a wild experience this was.”

Yet Wolf announced new May dates all in larger venues. He canceled my hometown of Dothan, AL but Dirty Honey came.

Me thinks the Grammy nom is a factor.

Statement from MAMMOTH:
Due to the continuing uncertainty MAMMOTH have reluctantly cancelled their planned Summer Tour in the UK and Europe. This has been a very difficult decision to make and we hope to see you soon.

After Scorpions pulled the plug on their June Germany dates, and Mammoth WVH didn’t slot in any replacement shows, I wondered if the rest of the European dates would stand… now we know (sigh).
