The sixth matchup of the 2013 Ultimate Classic Rock Bowl features two of the most explosive groups ever to come out of Los Angeles — Motley Crue and Van Halen. Over the next month, 16 of rock’s biggest bands will square off against each other in a series of single-elimination battles to determine the true champ.

Edward Van Halen and company sent music lovers flocking to record stories — and countless guitar players back to the drawing board — when they emerged onto the national spotlight in the late ’70s. A few years later Motley Crue burst forth from the Sunset Strip scene with a perfect balance of rock riffs, punk attitude and yes, a hint of pop smarts. More than three decades on, both bands remain not just active, but among the most popular concert draws in all of rock and roll.

So which of the two will win the battle for the City of Angels? That’s up to you! The polls for all eight first round matches close on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 11:59 PM ET. The 2013 Ultimate Classic Rock Bowl winner will be announced Feb. 4 — the day after Super Bowl XLVII. You can vote up to once an hour until then, so come back as often as you’d like.

2013 Ultimate Classic Rock Bowl, Round Two

The second round of the 2013 Ultimate Classic Rock Bowl features a lot of interesting matchups — perhaps none more intriguing than the one pitting Van Halen’s sunny, California-raised pyrotechnics against the more cerebral music of England’s Pink Floyd.

16 of rock’s biggest bands met up earlier this month in a series of single-elimination matches to determine the genre’s true champions; now only eight remain. Van Halen advanced by taking 66% of the vote against fellow L.A. legends Motley Crue, while Pink Floyd surprisingly toppled the reigning kings of hard rock and metal, Metallica, in a 65% to 35% runaway.

So now who moves on? That’s up to you. You can vote once per hour in each of the four second round matches from now until Sunday, Jan. 20 at 11:59 PM ET. The winner of the 2013 Ultimate Classic Rock Bowl will be announced Feb. 4 — the day after the Super Bowl.

That will be a close one as Pink Floyd VH both the best at what they do but entirely different styles and content + fans…

Wow, the other match ups are pretty interesting as well. There’s Led Zeppelin vs. GnR and the Beatles vs ACDC!
