New Compilation Features Classic-Rock Covers Sung by Ex-Rainbow Frontman Joe Lynn Turner

Deadline/Cleopatra Records — A new compilation titled The Sessions gathering together a variety of classic rock covers that former Rainbow and Deep Purple singer Joe Lynn Turner recorded in recent years for a series of all-star tribute albums will be released on October 7. The album includes renditions of well-known songs by Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Steve Miller, The Kinks, The Doors, Queen, Supertramp and Red Rider.

Among the many notable musicians accompanying Turner on the various tracks are Def Leppard’s Vivian Campbell and Phil Collen, Leslie West, Toto’s Steve Lukather, ex-Doobie Brother Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, former Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye, Yes bassist Billy Sherwood, Deep Purple’s Steve Morse, Whitesnake’s Reb Beach, Night Ranger’s Brad Gillis and Steve Cropper.

The Sessions kicks off with an updated version of Rainbow’s 1982 hit “Stone Cold,” a song co-written and originally sung by Turner, which features guitar work by Campbell. The album also features renditions of Aerosmith’s “Let the Music Do the Talking,” Van Halen’s “Dance the Night Away,” AC/DC’s “Back in Black,” The Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night,” The Who’s “The Seeker,” Miller’s “Jungle Love,” Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls” and The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm.”

It looks like a very, very impressive line-up and I was wondering how JLT was able to pull all these guys together because in spite of all the talent, it’s not like something like this is going to generate enough money to cover the travel and recording studio expenses. And I think some of these guys aren’t even active anymore (Skunk Baxter, for example). So yeah … maybe this is all (or mostly) just rehashed recordings from years past.
