VAN HALEN Rumored To Be In Mixing Stage For New Album

As has been the case in the past, everything concerning VAN HALEN this year has been shrouded in mystery and secrecy.

But it’s getting close to “go” time again.

I have heard from one of my reliable sources that recording of the new VAN HALEN album is complete and the songs recorded are now in the mixing stage with a well-known big name mixer (more on that soon…).

I’m told that Eddie and Alex Van Halen are the only members present for the mixing stage.

This news ties in with a very similar time frame from 2011, when the band went public in November of that year about their new album A Different Kind Of Truth, which was released in February 2012.

Yeah, we know something was coming, but I thought it was well established that it would NOT be a new album. I was reading an interview with Dave that I saw posted on Facebook the other day and he made a comment about how he was in the process of getting all of his old film and video digitized and how it was going to be a lengthy process. I think that interview was from 2013? Anyway, I’m sure the rumor mill is going to start cranking again and this seems to be “Van Halen Season”. They always did like to spring things at the first of the year. Here’s hoping that it is actually SOMETHING and this isn’t all just a big stinking pile of false hope and disappointment.

P.S. I will say when Wolf tweeted that pic, I was hoping that meant the next EVH “Custom Shop” to be released would be a Shark.

This does seem to be the time of year that rumors start flying or that things start happening in Van Halen land.

I’ll take that feeling of late 2011 / early 2012 again, thanks…

Over the last year, rumors that Van Halen are working on a new album just won’t go away. It seems that every music news website, when mentioning Van Halen, would end their articles with “Van Halen are currently working on a followup to 2012’s A Different Kind of Truth.”

Today that rumor went into overdrive, as one website even claimed that “the new Van Halen album is complete and the songs recorded are now in the mixing stage.”

Of course, we would love nothing more for that to be true. But don’t want to see Van Halen fans get excited about something that’s not happening. The rumor simply is not true. The fact of the matter is that Van Halen has not recorded a new album, or any new music, for that matter.

We at the the Van Halen News Desk are very careful about the information that we present. We are probably the only rock news website that’s never reported that the band were working on an album over the last year. We’ve always maintained that they’ve got something they’re working on, but we‘ve never said they were working on an album of new material.

There is some very good news, however. The secret project that David Lee Roth mentioned last year IS STILL IN THE WORKS. So we WILL be hearing from Van Halen at some point, which we’re really excited about.

Generally live albums and dvds aren’t usually referred to as a ” GREAT special project ” like Dave mentioned.

I’m thinking it might be something different possibly something never done before.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I’ll sit back and wait for whatever will be, to actually be. I will restate that my source is solid and SOMETHING is being mixed right now…and there was no mention of it being something live. Naturally I’ll report back ASAP when I hear any update.

I think the new project is Van Halen’s exploration into fusion jam sessions (ala Spinal Tap) or into Techno dance music.

This seems like reasonable thinking, because you don’t know where I’m getting the info. I know that believing that they are writing new music and then hearing that they’re not is VERY hard news to swallow. And I understand why you could doubt what I said.

But I don’t want people to continue to look forward to something that’s not going to happen. What I said is absolutely not “speculation.” It doesn’t matter what DLR said a year ago. It doesn’t matter what Tremonti said a year ago. I am trying to gently tell people that there is currently no new van Halen music that has been recorded in the last couple years. I also want to be clear that there is definitely no chance that I am incorrect about this.

I understand that I am basically telling everyone something that they don’t want to hear. Of course there’s going to be lots of people doubting what I’m saying. But I want to say that I’ve been doing this for exactly 20 years. Above you said “but both [Andrew and I] have been wrong before.” But I just want to say that yesterday, and today, I’m sitting here trying to think of any news that I ever posted on VHND or even anything I mentioned on VHLinks that I was wrong about at the time. I can not think of ANYTHING I ever said or reported that was not true. Ever. If anyone can name anything, I’d be really interested to hear it. But I don’t think so.

On the occasions that I tell people some news that that they haven’t heard yet, it has always been true and accurate.
