I’m curious – did they take out the reverb from VHI? I read somewhere where Ed mentions not liking it. I don’t care for it either…

They remastered “CGTSNM” and “MWM”, too?! I also didn’t know they were going to have all six remasters released today? What did I miss??

Nobody knew, they just kind of showed up today on iTunes, Qobuz and HDTracks. I still don’t know when the remastered CDs/LPs of VHII – Diver Down are supposed to be released.

They said they would be released in the Spring, which is why I’m kinda surprised to see them. With the BOV1 tracks in there, maybe we’re going to hear them live this year??

Thanks for the heads up, Jason! Yeah, supposedly Eddie and Alex never seemed to like the plate reverb used on the first few albums by Templeman and Don Landee. Personally, I like the effect. It’s an acoustic, not digital, effect and just sounds more natural to me – a bit dated but appropriate to the time and era of the original recordings.

That’s all remastering is now, just making it louder. Silly.

…And that’s why most of them suck. It reinforces the push for record companies to justify the “vinyl renaissance” and go back to selling records again. Don’t believe the hype. …Still sold on these:

This isn’t the remaster from the 1/4 tape that VHI and 1984 are from, correct? Those are the ones I’m wondering about.

The release date for this particular collection is today and it says “Mastered for iTunes”. There’s no other information. My guess is no, they’re not from the 2015 remasters because songs for Tokyo Dome are part of the collection and those songs have no ratings as of right now. Everything else does indicating prior versions and releases. …Just a guess but I could be wrong.

I thought the Y2K DLR Era remasters sounded better than the original anemic CDs from the 80s.
Do I really need the 2015 releases, considering there are no bonus tracks?

From what I have heard so far, there’s not a lot of difference between the 2000 CDs and the new CD versions, they’re very similar. However, supposedly the 24-bit/192kHz hi-res files are mastered differently than the CD and 24/96 versions. Apparently, only the 24/192 files have no dynamic compression/limiting applied, so they are much more dynamic than the other versions. I haven’t been able to verify myself.

I wish Ed would allow Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs to properly remaster and reissue the first six albums, preferably on SACD.
While I’ll probably skip the 2015 remasters, I’d definitely buy the 6 pack again if they were given the proper MFSL treatment.
Hell, I’d buy the Van Hagar 4 if Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs were allowed to remaster them.
