When this residency was announced in November, 2024 I had no plans to fly
out for it. I did just see this very same lineup in Cincy play a flawless
2 hour set last August that has remained my favorite show of the summer.
However, when Sammy announced they were adding a few different songs, my
ears perked up. “Amsterdam” was one, another was “Humans Being”. Not to
mention the brand new single, “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight”. Sadly (for me),
“Amsterdam” did not make it past night 2. Im assuming the crowd reaction was
less than enthusiastic, but they did keep “Humans Being” in all 9 nights! I
decided to wear my Chickenfoot shirt (purchased on their 2009 tour) to bring
some luck and to my immense surprise “Big Foot” was played in one of the
rotating slots. I did not expect it as it was done on the 10th, but this
was the 2nd and only other time they performed it during the residency. I
was also very happy to get “Good Enough”, which was another that was swapped
out occasionally. Huge thanks to Frontier for having dirt cheap airfare out
of Ohio and nearby hotels being as equally dirt cheap, this was a no brainer
trip to make. Sammy has mentioned in a few interviews that he will no longer
tour, but will continue playing residencies, one-off shows and festivals.
It is amazing to me how incredible he sounds for being 77 years of age.
I had a couple empties to my left and one annoying female singer to my
right, so I moved down a bit a few songs in (to get away from her). Thanks
to the cardioids, she’s barely audible, whew!
