On this day in rock ‘n’ roll history, Sammy Hagar AKA ‘The Red Rocker’ was born. And 68 years later, Sammy is still “indestructible,” as Carter describes him in his Rock Talk video about the singer. “He’s getting up there in years, but he still has his voice, he still has his health — the guy’s amazing.”

You may know Hagar as the second lead singer of Van Halen, but he was rocking long before he auditioned to replace David Lee Roth. He first broke onto the music scene in 1973 with his band Montrose, whose self-titled album Carter considers essential for anybody into hard rock.

That should be “with THE band Montrose,” because it wasn’t Sammy’s band.
