Talking to Radio Metal, the frontman says his current band are better than his previous one.

“As individuals,absolutely! I’ve been in both bands, I can tell you right now. Take the new albums and compare them track by track and then tell me.

“If you take Joe Satriani versus Eddie, you take Dave Lee Roth versus me, Wolfie Van Halen versus Mikey Anthony, Chad Smith or Kenny Aronoff versus Al Van Halen…I mean, come on! You know what I mean? Man for man, who can sing the best? Dave or I, today? Who can play the best? Joe or Eddie, today? Who could play or sing the best? Wolfie or Mikey? I think it’s a joke. Sure, I love the comparison as long as it’s fair. Not because you’re a big Eddie Van Halen fan, you think that he’s God, therefore you think that he’s better than Joe; you have to be bipartisan and just listen and watch both of them play. Listen, I played with them both, I can tell you right now: there is no comparison today. Never mind the innovator that Eddie was. I’m talking about what they can play today.”

But Hagar would be happy for Chickenfoot to open for Van Halen.

Objectively, I see what he’s trying to say. I agree with SOME of it. I can’t say I disagree about the rehash material either…I was kind of bummed. However, I like what Ed did with Ripley though, and I like what he did with the musical upgrade for Tattoo. Who knows. I think this is just the start though…lol…

And I will say that I think I will like ADKOT better than either Chickenfoot disc…I just like Ed better than Satch…though I can say Satch is technically a better player.

This is nothing new. The press are always going to ask Sammy & Mike about VH. So the press is just as “guilty” as Sam & Mike are. Sammy & Mike know this as well as the press does – talking about VH is good publicity for everybody. Look at this thread – one of the most popular today! See, it works. There’s a thing called ‘taking the higher road’. Mike displayed it earlier by saying he’s looking forward to hearing what they did with the old tunes. Good on him. Fat-fuck should follow Mike’s lead on this.

I like the thing Sammy did with Chickenfoot. Hell they filled a great part of the 14 year gap created by Van Halen.

But let’s all shut up by comparing the two bands. There is no comparison besides the fact that some members of Chickenfoot USED to play in Van Halen.

The only thing I want to compare is the Van Halens new album versus the old stuff.
Is the new stuff as good as the music I fell in love with 30 years ago.
