The world marks the 45th Earth Day on Wednesday, so I figured I’d pick a song with an environmental theme for this week.

Of course the go-to song would be Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi. But after 45 years of Earth Days, the earth is in far worse shape than when Mitchell wrote “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot” back in 1970.

Earth Day 45 needs more urgency than Mitchell mustered.

Van Halen’s Outta Space from their 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth dishes up an environmental message with some electric guitar horsepower. The song is a solid rocker, anchored by the vocals of original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth.

Love the guitar on this song one of my favourites on ADKOT….
