When I was near the end of my 6th grade year (must have been 1979 or 1980?) we had a “visitation day” at our local Junior High school. As kids from the different elementary schools met in the gym, there was a Jr. High band on stage entertaining us. Unfortunately, they only seemed to know one song – My Sharona. Imagine hearing that riff over and over and over for 15 or 20 minutes. It was awesome and awful all at the same time. Needless to say, I’ll always have a “special” place in my heart for My Sharona – I seriously couldn’t get it out of my head for the next few weeks.
