Merry Christmas everybody! It’s been a long time and a lot of hard work, but I have finally completed a first pass at what I’m hoping will be considered a genuine new unique bootleg worthy of sharing. Simply put, it’s a compilation of the best/most interesting (in my opinion) live recordings from Van Halen’s flagship 1978 world tour. This is the original first release of the compilation titled “World Tour 1978″ that will be part of a future series of compilations branded as “reCOLLECTION xx” (“xx” referring to the number in the series).

What makes this collection unique is that I have included every song Van Halen performed live on the tour, sourced almost every one of them from a different date/venue, and sequentially positioned them in the same order they were played on location with as indiscernible song transitions as I could achieve, so as to simulate one single all-encompassing concert. I also provided printable artwork files (including a 24 page cd booklet) for the old school collectors like myself.

With respect to lineage, I have done my best to disclose my limited alterations by adding their descriptions directly after the sources’ original lineage(s) (when available). Most of the audio changes I made involved slightly adjusting amplification to avoid noticeable volume differences and, of course crossfading was used at the beginning and end of each track to achieve smooth transitions between songs from different sources. No equalization or other audio magic was used to alter the sources’ sound.

This series is awesome. I’ve heard this release and I think it’s a great (unofficial) live album for any Van Halen fan. And even most of us here that probably have all the shows used to compile this release, there’s something really cool about hearing the songs from different parts of the tour faded seamlessly together. Like a journey thru 1978 with Van Halen.

And the artwork rocks too. Definitely lots of time and effort went into this.

Just an FYI, for an upgrade on image quality, I’m looking for higher resolution images to improve the 2-page spreads (e.g. the “track listing foldout”, the “stage shot foldout”, or even the “back cover” image). If you happen to have high resolution versions of these images, please let me know. They are decent as they are now but could definitely use an upgrade.

you should love this. Think you posted a similar idea before getting a live/compilation of the great and unique renditions from a tour all on one bootleg. This is along those lines.

Panamaniac, this is impressive! I love the booklet. It has a great layout, a real pro feel to it. As TMSux said above, most of us have these shows already, but I’d say you nailed it with the selections and flow. This is a very nice early Christmas present. Great job!
