I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. I prefer to manage my own shows on DIME and The Traders Den. I will upload to other sites when I wish to for select shows. Thanks for honoring my wishes in advance.

This is “CBG Classic Master Video Series Vol. 37”.

The night before I was in Philadelphia filming Van Halen at the Monsters of Rock festival. I drove the 4+ hours home and recharged the batteries overnight. The Monsters of Rock was now playing Sullivan Stadium in Foxborough, MA. I needed to help a friend move this morning from one apartment to another. After that was complete, I showered and was on my way to Foxborough. This show almost didn’t happen because of the band not being paid. They also limited the number of tickets that would be sold to the show to 50,000. There were other rules as well, barricades placed intermittently throughout the floor of the stadium to ‘keep the crowd in control’. Maybe the name scared them being it was called Monsters of Rock and the town thought that bad things were going to happen?! Who knows. But the show went off and everything turned out ok.

As I was walking up to the stadium, the Scorpions were playing onstage. I really wanted to get Van Halen the most. That is why I went. But it started early in the day and I was sort of surprised it was at the end of the Scorpions set as I was heading in. I did bring batteries and tapes to film them, but since they were already finishing their set, that was out the door.

It was a real hot day again and I was sweating wearing that winter lined coat up to the gate with the camera strapped to my back. I could feel the beads of sweat rolling down my arms in the sleeves of the jacket. I must have looked so odd with that coat on considering it was 95F and still air. Maybe the security was tired of searching by then or they figured everyone was in by the time I was entering, but they did absolutely no search on me at all and I walked right in. I went to my seat and got that jacket off ASAP. Then I set up the camcorder, it had to be assembled. I had to attach the eye piece. Then I had to slide on the hand grip. Then insert a battery into the hand grip. Next attach the 3-1/2 inch 2X magnification lens to the camera lens adaptor ring. Then tape the external mic onto the camera and most importantly plug it in. Now I was ready.

In a matter of a half hour Van Halen hit the stage in the daylight. I think Foxboro wanted the show to be over early and they put restrictions on how long each band could play. VH actually cut their first song of the encore as a result and only played Zeppelin’s Rock ‘n Roll to close out the show. I was able to capture the whole show. Someone cool did a good dedicated audio of the show that tonsofsobs provided to me and that is the alternate audio that is used for this production. Enjoy the last Monsters show I have to release of The Mighty Van Halen at the old Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. CBG5150 Posted to DIME 2016-05-07.

First, I want to thank Randy for hooking me up with this. I appreciate it. I only have two other 1988 shows (Miami and Giants Stadium) so I don’t have alot to compare it to, but here goes.

This was down the street from my house in Foxboro at the old Sullivan Stadium. I did not go, because I had a graduation party to be at (high school grad) and I did not love OU812. The show itself seems to have been a good show – the band had alot of energy and was in good spirits.

CBG did not have as good of a seat in Foxboro as he did in Giants Stadium. His vantage point was the same as I had a few years later when I saw Metallica open for Guns and Roses there, so it looked familiar – upper level to the right of the stage. What he lacked in close view though, he made up for with smart filming and knowledge of the band – when to focus on certain members and when to pull away. At times, it’s jittery, but for the most part, it’s very watchable.

DigitalDan’s remastered audio is the revelation here. It’s much better than the cd I’ve had of this show forever. Although the bass is still somewhat muffled, the rest of the band is clear and punchy. I don’t know if the source was the same, or if this is new, but it definitely sounds better than I remember.

Overall, I actually liked watching it. As always, Randy did a great job of putting everything together, and I appreciate his nice, simple menus that make it easy to navigate. The show had the same feel as the Live Without A Net show(s) so if you liked that, you should like this. I can’t say that it’s better than the Giants Stadium show, because the multiple angles and closer view make that look more professional (nice job Randy!) but it’s still worth seeing. For me, it was a hometown show that I missed out on and was nice to see. Thanks again Randy.
<hr
