I only have one request, that you don’t take these files and post them on other torrent sites. I have many shows to upload. I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. I experienced difficulties getting everything done last fall and had to stop the two series again. Sorry for that. I purposely waited to start back up until many shows were completed so that I have a 6 month buffer from releasing shows to producing the shows. I shouldn’t fall into this issue again and plan on keeping both series running for 20+ years now without interruption with one release a week.

This is “CBG 21st Century Master Video Series Vol.15”.

OH, Yeaaaahhh! This is the second tour with David Lee Roth back in the band. It was great just seeing him back with Ed side by side on the same stage back in 2007-08 even though they were doing a greatest hit setlist. A lot of those songs were songs all Van Halen fans wanted to hear live again. Then, as is customary nowadays with bands, four years had to pass, and then we get another tour. Ahhh, remember those days of releasing a brand new album and then touring for 3-4 months then having another brand new album just 8 months after the last one. Not like that anymore is it?! Well, in 2012, Van Halen was coming back out on the road and this time, for the first time in a very long time, they were releasing a new album to correspond to the tour. New material!? When it hit, it was a lot more than expected. For us Van Halen fans, some of the songs took some getting used to since they reworked the lyrics on like 6 songs that had been circulated on demos tapes in the past going back to when they were starting out as a band. There were like 7 brand new original songs too. I was sort of surprised that when they did start to tour, that they didn’t play many of those songs. Van Halen was always a band that supported the new album they released by playing like 6 songs at least from it during the tour. Only 3 this time. But it was great that they didn’t do just one tour and call it quits like the reformation with Sammy Hagar in 2004.

So I went to a couple shows on this tour and then decided to go to Greensboro to see them as well. This turned out to be a golden night. First, I arrive early and park in the empty lot way out away from the building by the exit. The only thing there is a large mobile camper. I then call the NYBG and talk to him. He tells me that VH is allowing filming on the tour. Interesting because I didn’t hear anything about it when they were going through the northeast. So I decide to walk up and ask the security guy at the gate. The guy I approach asks me if I need to go to the box office. I say no and ask him if I can bring a camera into the show and video tape. He says ‘no, that isn’t allowed’. I then tell him that Van Halen is allowing it. He tells me to wait a minute and he takes the corded police style mic off his shoulder clasp and asks someone, ‘Are they allowing video camcorders into the show?’…the response comes back…Yes, as long as they are not professional. The security guy asks, ‘what does professional mean?’….then there is a 2 minute pause….and the guy on the other end comes back with, ‘no tv style cameras, no tripods’. I am shocked. This wasn’t like Metallica where there was a tapers section. Any seat here.

I already had a ticket to the show on the second level. I decided to walk up to the box office and see what else they had. I have this personal rule when it comes to buying tickets to shows, nothing over $100, and preferably not close to $100. I don’t sit in the close seats and rarely sit in my seat anyway. I just need to get in. The lady in the box office window come back with…a ticket in the 2nd row right in from of Ed’s mic stand. $197….ouch! So I looked at it like this, if I can truly film right there, and how many times did I get an opportunity to film Van Halen like that….zero…so I went for it. Laid the bills down. The ticket was mine. I went outside and sold my other ticket for $40. Then I walk back to my car all excited for what the night might be like. There is one other car next to mine there and the people from that car are talking to the people from the camper who are there now. So we all start talking and for some reason the wife of the guy parked next to my car says she is from Saugerties, NY. And I am like WHAT! That is the same high school I went to and that Jimmy Fallon went to by the way. As we are talking the guy starts looking at me and then it dawns on both of us. It has been like 30 years, but he lived in the home right next to me and we were actually long lost friends. Go Figure! So after reminiscing about the past, and making plans to visit in the future, I was on my way into the show.

So I go right in and make sure I go to the same guy I talked to previously to enter the arena. I walk right to the front of the floor and ask the security guy if it was cool to film and he was fine with it. So I am all set sitting there in the 2nd row thinking wow…I am going to film Van Halen from right here. Then this guy in the front row turns around and recognizes me. What are the chances?! He lived in Saugerties, NY also!!!! What a night. He was more friends with my brothers and a common friend of mine, but still?! Van Halen takes the stage and as it is going, compared to some of the shows I have already heard on audio from the tour, this seemed like a very hot show, not only temperature wise as David demanded the A/C be turned off in the building as VH played to help his voice, but the band and David seemed to be really on this night. The Greensboro Coliseum was a venue still around that Van Halen played all the way back in 81,82, & 84. So maybe that had something to do with it. It was not one of those arenas with luxury suites and glass everywhere. The fans are tucked in nice and close on the sides. A sort of old school arena.

After the show, a friend told me he recorded an IEM of Ed’s and Wolfie’s ear feeds. It does lack in the vocals and bass, but it does bring a lot of backing vocals up front in the mix along with the instruments. I then gave the source to DigitalDan and he matrixed it with Loucap’s great audience source which complimented the IEM very well. DigitalDan did a 2 channel mix and a 5.1 surround sound mix. Both are on this source and you can choose which one you want to sample. So enjoy the Mighty Van Halen from the 2nd row…OH, Yeaaaaaahhh…CBG5150 Posted to Dime 2016-03-18.

I think a version (or two?) of this might already be out there – but this is the first one with CBG’s footage. In terms of mixing, this has some of the best flow of any VH show I’ve ever mixed; due in large part to CBG knowing VH’s music so well that he anticipates ahead of time what to film as opposed to re-actively making decisions on the fly. The band was really hitting on all cylinders as well at this show.

It’s nice that there are two audio tracks to choose from. I like the one without the click track, but cool to hear nonetheless.

It only bothers me when it’s obviously not part of the music, i.e., during parts of the song when it’s kind of quiet. But while they are jamming away – I pretty much can’t hear it even when I listen for it.

Amazing show, really well put together! The click doesn’t really get in the way.

The ‘click’ is a cowbell being played through the earpieces for the band. It acts as their metrodome (keeps time and speed of song). I also like how you can hear the count before the songs to get the speed right.
