Wondering if anyone has played (or owns) both and can tell me if there is an appreciable difference in playability or sound, because there certainly is a difference in price. Given that Eddie is my favorite guitarist I’m having a hard time figuring out why I have eight guitars but I’ve never owned one endorsed by him, so I might snag one of these soon. The USA is about 2x the price of the Special, I don’t have a problem spending big $ on a guitar but I’m looking for feedback before I start my search. Thanks meng.

Looks like one might be made in Japan and the other in USA, I can’t tell if that’s the only difference.

If you have a chance, buy the STANDARD USA MODEL… the quality and the playability are far superior.

The special may look like the standard, but in terms of wood, sound, neck, and feel, it’s totally different from the American version…

After trying both, I noteced these differences…

Of course this is just my opinion…. :-)

my next guitar, will in fact be the WOLFGANG, STANDARD , made in USA. :-)

I have had both, sold them and went back to EVHMM & Axis guitars. For the money difference, if buying new, I would not pay the crazy $ for a new USA Wolf. It is a nice guitar, but not twice as nice as a Special. One thing, try & buy a used 2012 or before special, if you go that route. They were made in Japan then. Starting in 2013, now its China. I really didn’t notice much difference at all in quality or sound between the special or USA versions. Both feel & sound great, I just happen to prefer the Music Man guitars.

Thanks guys, I’ve gotten feedback on another guitar-related forum that the Peaveys are also great guitars and looking at a used Peavey is another option. There is a guy on that site who says he’s played all of the EVH models and the Peavey is his favorite. He has a beautiful seafoam green Peavey EVH but I don’t know that I’m into that color at all. Asking $1,500, would much rather prefer a different finish.

I own a music man Axis guitar. Now they dont make the axis anymore -is it easy to find one? also is it easy to find a Peavey? I also heard the Peavey sound and play very well.
The wolfgang special is as stated above made of cheaper parts making for a thinner sound. The USA edition has better quality parts and also plays a little beefier.

thanks

I will tell you the USA EVH wolfs dont need additional routing to the trem cavity when installing a big brass sustain block and the Japan EVH specials do. I needed to do some additional routing in my Stealth special trem cavity when I upgraded the block. My buddies on the vhlinks that own USA EVH’s did not need to. Interesting as the PV wolf specials (usa models) and the standards were all good to go and plenty enough routed for the upgraded brass blocks. Cant speak for the EXP PV specials though……
