I love Material Issue, but soloing wasn’t one of their strong suits. The solo in One Simple Word is particularly lame. I challenge you to find and post a worse guitar solo in a rock song. Live recordings and Nirvana songs do not count!

Can you find a worse guitar solo?

I think you’ll like the song, if you don’t know it, but if you want to skip to the solo it starts at about 1:43.

Where’s the guitar solo ?

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

Maybe Material Issue could run a contest and have people submit replacement guitar solos?

Well, the band did hire a 2nd guitar player, at least for live performances. But shortly thereafter, the original guitarist/singer/songwriter committed suicide so that was the end of that. I really like the band and they have a couple of good bootlegs out there, but soloing – if you can even call it that – wasn’t a priority!
