Mikey with the SG bass! That’s a Gibson V on Eddie, too, isn’t it? What’s Dave holding? Love this classic stuff. Doing the glam rock look playing Sabbath covers.

Yes, it does look like Mike is playing a Gibson EB-3 from what we can see. And it also does look like a Flying V in Ed’s hands. I’m not sure about Dave. I also love the classic stuff, like this picture. The article it was part of was secondary to me, because although it might be their first admission, it didn’t seem like news to me.

FYI: This photo was most likely from late 1974, and a different venue.

Maybe that thing in Roth’s hands is a cowbell wrapped in duck tape, isn’t there a couple of songs with a cowbell on the club days?
Did notice the marshall head standing on end and a 68 salt n pepper marshall cab. Funny Ed used to say they were pretty strapped for cash but I think his dad got him the gold top les paul in ’74? I remember in the late 70′s marshall’s and gibson’s were way out of reach for poor kids like me LOL.

Is that Fender an old Bassman?

Think Ed used a blonde band master although this one’s black? he’s said in a interview that he used a fender for smaller club gigs, so I’m guessing the marshall on end isn’t on. Although there was speculation that the band master was slaved into the marshall, who knows for sure.

Couple more pics of Ed. No Gibson logo on the headstock?

This makes sense from what Ed and Mike are playing for instruments and what they are wearing.
Greg posted this pic of Dave and had it dated Spring 1974

Notice Dave’s hair is shorter and the outfit is different. This makes sense, because they didn’t hook up with Mike until after the May 3, 1974 PHS gig.

Nick – it might be a cowbell, but I can’t tell. I did notice the Marshall standing on end. It’s so funny to see the now priceless head treated like it was any other tool. And yes, I had to wait until I was making good money (late 80′s) to afford my 1st Marshall too

It could be a blackface Bandmaster (40w) or Tremolux (35w). I doubt it was a 50w Bassman b/c that would be loud as hell, but it could be. All three amps had the same setup on the front panel.

It’s not the Bandmaster that Ed used in his bedroom and at Gazzari’s. That was blonde. Below is pic of it.

Looks like the band had a set stage outfit at a certain period or the gig in conversation was around the time of this promo shot… either way the two pics below have mixed dates as to when these were taken. The photographer states 73/74 in her watermark.
