I just saw the video with him and foo fighters,he looks and sounds like shit,anybody who knows me knows im a roth fan look at my list,i love sammy but not with halen,JMO I feel like i just got kicked in the balls.

I agree…he looks riduclous..and you cant close your eyes because that’s worse..

Well DLR certainly has had a great run but when i saw them in 2012 here in Winnipeg i realized his voice was done. He’s still a great entertainer but the vocals not so good.

His voice has been gone for a while now.. On the last tour he sounded horrible but he’s still the showman on stage.

I will continue to argue that if you are there live and in person, and have a couple of beers in you, nobody sounds better than Diamond Dave. I can’t sit through the Youtube vids from 2012, but the show I went to was frickin’ awesome. Likewise with 2007. But like I said, the beer helps!

So, my advice is don’t watch the online clips and limit your exposure to live experiences. Assuming there will be any…

^^^ I wouldn’t exactly say no one sounds better than DLR when I’m at a VH show and the band is rockin’ hard – it’s just that I don’t notice that Dave’s voice sounds bad. The last several shows I’ve attended, I’ve been up front though, so maybe that’s partly why.

When I saw VH in 2012 everyone sounded great when I was at the show. However, Daves voice was not as good on the recording of the same show. I would still see them again next time around.

To be honest, I’m not a fan of Dave’s soft shoe and magic hand schtick on the last tour. So for me the entertainer part is waning as well. I still think Van Halen is the best band out there, but Dave is getting harder for me to take. That being said, I am looking forward to whatever is coming this year!

The live experience and the adrenaline running through you at the show masks a lot of the deficiencies (plus the beers too). I still love the show and hope they have a tour or two left in them. Damn, I hate that our heroes have to get older.

^^^ Typically, I am always filming when I go to a VH show, so I might get a beer or two before the show, but during the show, I concentrate strictly on filming. That’s another reason why I probably don’t notice the flaws that much.

I rarely notice it at the shows other than an obvious crack in the voice or whatever. Now on the boots well that’s another story. Much more noticeable. When I’m there, I’m not going in order to nitpick every bad note someone hits. If that were the case I’d never go see my 2 favorite bands anymore VH and KISS.
