Business Withdrawal by Victor Advanced Media Co., Ltd. and Subsidiaries
Victor Advanced Media Co., Ltd. hereby announces that it has decided to withdraw from all businesses including the recording media business as explained in detail below.

Victor Advanced Media Co., Ltd. and all of our associates would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for your long-lasting support. We are truly grateful for your business.

1. Reasons behind the business withdrawal
Victor Advanced Media has developed businesses centered on optical recording media. As the larger storage capacity of hard disc drives (HDDs) and the
use of cloud computing is driving changing market conditions, the market for optical media products has been diminishing. Due to the decline in demand in recent years and market outlook it has become increasingly difficult to expect improvement in the future business environment.

Amid such circumstances and consistent with the policies of our parent company, TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD., we have decided to withdraw from our businesses in their entirety.

3. Future schedule
Our sales activities are scheduled to be terminated in December 2015.

So who is left ?

Time to stock up I guess. Taiyo Yuden made the best discs! Which stands to reason since they created the format. If they are out, it’s the beginning of the end. Darn.

Smart TVs really have taken the necessity of burning discs away. I download the torrents, back everything up onto external hard drives and just plug the drive into my TV and play the “DVD” and “Bluray” that way. A lot of times, I’ll find the shows on YouTube and just watch them on YouTube on the TV, too. It’s a nightmare trying to organize the shelves and shelves of discs I have burned. I don’t do all the artwork printing and all that. Just slip them in paper sleeves and shelve them.

I guess it was bound to happen … but it makes me very sad. I had a hard drive crash and lost a ton of stuff. I strongly believe in burning back ups.

I don’t take any chances..and I don’t trust any digital media…I burn to tape and gold archival DVD/CDR/BDR media…maybe those discs will be around longer than my Parrots..

You need to have your digital media backed up.

I use external hard drives to store all my Van Halen bootlegs, and I have a clone of each drive.

I had one external drive stop working, bought a new one to replace it, and copied everything, so I have a backup of a backup.

I don’t think blanks will become extinct. They still make audio & video tapes.

May end up costing more though.

Well though the cd-r format will probably be alive for many years, and some brands may even see an increase in business since Taiyo Yuden is getting out of the business – it’s more of an issues if you prefer their brand products to the others. Myself I stuck to either TY or gold archival. Looks like I’ll have to defer to the gold as my standard
