Of Course There’s an Awful Cover of Van Halen’s ‘Jump’ Called ‘Trump’

​Imagine, just for a second, what it would be like if Weird Al Yankovic was suddenly completely unfunny and politically motivated. Imagine an alternate reality where the Kidz Bop team started making lifeless versions of songs for your sad, culture-deprived parents. What if Van Halen lost every shred of musical talent, and, against the band’s known left-leaning political ideology, decided to endorse Donald Trump with a version of “Jump” called “Trump”?

It would be this song.

Right On Band performed the above song at a Trump rally in Norfolk, Virgnia, on Saturday. Though the song includes such lyrics as “The guy’s a recking machine / negotiator supreme / can’t you see what I mean?” Right On Band clarifies on its Facebook that the band is neither “RED” nor “BLUE.”

“Wherever there is a Party, that’s where we’ll be,” they promise.

Oh, good.

You got it tough. I’ve seen the toughest all around!” What lyrics better articulate the struggle of white, lower-middle-class American men than the opening lines of that 1984 mega hit? There’s just one twist to the chorus, of course: “Might as well Trump! Trump! Go ahead and Trump!” Like Mr. Trump, Mr. Roth is an American icon whose genius is universally recognized everywhere from Walmarts in Daytona Beach to Walmarts in Peoria, Ill.
