Very interesting from a guy at Links.

Tonight I discovered one of my favorite unreleased demos from ’77, “Young and Wild” no longer comes up on Youtube. A search only brings up Warner 77 Demos. So I searched Warner Demos and it appears that and couple other songs that have yet to make it on an album have been yanked due to copyright infringement.
The Warner Demos playlist on someone’s channel showed a couple of unidentified “Deleted Video” links. I clicked on one and it displayed “VAN HALEN I Wanna Be Your L…” This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner LLP”. The other one says the same thing for “We Die Bold.” All of the other demos i could find that have been released, came up fine.

I can’t help but think that these three songs are being reworked for the new VH album and the band had them pulled from Youtube due to concerns over fan criticism. Remember when ADKOT came out I think took some criticism for recycling the old demos. Frankly I loved it and I’m hoping to hear these three songs reworked as new.
Could this be right? Any thoughts or insight on this?
Why else would a specific law firm be named on those two specific songs that are yet to be released? Someone’s paying this firm to take them off of Youtube.
I can’t think of another possible reason than to protect the band and those songs themselves than, they’re going to be on the new album. Why else would they care, 37 years later?

We can hope. Did a search on YouTube, We Die Bold came up, Young and Wild did not…didnt do that deep of a search. Would make sense at this point. There is some smoke.

Definitely interesting.. I seem to recall Wolf mentioning they had more songs from the ADKOT sessions ready to go.. I’d gladly take ‘em.

I wondered why Young & Wild never made ADKOT? Was my fav unreleased VH tune. This maybe promising!

This Kim Fowley & Stephen Tetsch song was performed by the band (Van Halen) on 06/10/77 at the Whiskey A GoGo in West Hollywood, CA and recorded for the Warner Brothers Demo.

Steven Tetsch was also known as Venus of Venus and the Razorblades, a band that Van Halen opened for in their Whisky A GoGo days. The song was written in 1975 and the band most likely heard this song at one of these shows and decided to come up with their own version. Venus and the Razorblades never released their own version of the song.

Dave has made the comments that he felt the music Ed has written since he left was “meandering” and “without course”. I don’t think Dave can write to the post-CVH era stuff Ed has written, so they’re going back to the basics and working off the matierial they are all familiar with. I’d love to hear something new, but I don’t think Dave could work with it. I listened to the Jas Obrecht 1982 interview for Guitar Player again today and realized that the music for “Blood and Fire” was recorded at the same time as “Jump”. I knew it was used on the “The Wild Life” soundtrack, but I just recognized it on the recording today for the first time, when Ed said he had just recorded it a day or two earlier. I think they’re going to exhauset the back catalog before they even try to write anything new together. Only time will tell…

If they continue to mine from the older demos that’s a smart move. Other “classic” artists are struggling to sell new music. Joe Perry just mentioned the other day that he doesn’t see any point in Aerosmith recording more music because everyone likes the old stuff. Tom Petty basically said he is going to force his new music down concert-goers throats “so they know it’s there.” If VH can put out stuff that they were working on when they were in their heyday, that’s going to appeal more to their fan base and give people the originally awesome VH sound. Newly written music just isn’t as good after a while for almost every band. You can’t bottle the magic or whatever the saying is…

Anyone else notice that there’s other live VH material that’s been taken down because of a claim by Azoff Management?

They’re either going to release more of the old demos redone or remastered, or they’re just suddenly worried about old matierial being out there illegally. I tend to lean toward rereleasing the old matierial in some form or another.
