Chickenfoot to release ultimate box set “I+III+LV”

We are proud to announce the release “I+III+LV” by Chickenfoot on January 25th, 2013. The box set will include the worldwide Top 10 debut album “Chickenfoot” and the equally successful follow-up “III” and the limited live release “LV”, released in December and limited to 10.000 numbered copies in Europe.

“LV” features over an hour of live music made of four unreleased live songs recorded during the “III” World Tour and a series of very rare digital bonus tracks and B-sides live.

Since their debut album in 2009, Chickenfoot is one of the names mentioned the most in the industry, and one of the most loved among rock fans. Guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, Pepper’s drummer Chad Smith together with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony (ex Van Halen) reinvented the meaning of rock “super-group“, even if the fabulous four don’t like the definition themselves, having started the band just by jamming in clubs, without the idea of making it a successful recording band.

The worldwide rock community welcomed the band’s debut album “Chickenfoot” as one of the most inspired and honest rock record heard in years. “I” became one of the biggest rock successes of 2009. It ended up selling close to one million copies (#3 Platinum record in USA, Gold Impala Award in Europe, thanks to a stunning series of Top 10 chart entries).
The album is included in the box set, for the first time featuring the rare B-Side “Bitten By The Wolf” previously only available on vinyl LP.
The follow-up “III“ repeated the success of the first album and showed the band making a big step forward in terms of song-writing and sound identity reminding everybody how arena rock can be a fine art form and the most exciting thing around. The box set includes “III” in its limited CD+DVD version, featuring a bonus DVD with exclusive behind the scenes content, videos and live music.

“LV” Chickenfoot’s first live CD, includes rare live versions of their biggest hits like ‘Big Foot’, ‘Oh Yeah’ and ‘My Kinda Girl’ and 4 unreleased live songs from the most recent world tour featuring the phenomenal Kenny Aronoff on drums (stepping in for Chad Smith, being temporary busy with the Chili Peppers…).
For all the most dedicated fans who have already bought “I” and “III” Chickenfoot will make the extra disc “LV” available for a limited period as a stand-alone CD, released all over Europe on December 7th, 2012 (strictly limited to 10.000 numbered copies).

Sammy Hagar expressed his enthusiasm with his proverbial energy when asked to comment about the limited release of “LV”.

Weren’t the first 4 songs on the LV disc part of the Chickenfoot I re-release that just came out?
And I wonder if the last five are just audio from the live DVD. Anyone know?

The DVD that came out in late 2009 along with the re-released first disc (in the white packaging which was sensitive to black light) contained:
DVD includes an hour of new video footage featuring videos for every song including live performances from Montreux Jazz Festival (Soap on a Rope, Sexy Little Thing & Down The Drain), and exclusive footage from the road, in rehearsal, and in the recording studio. Both official music videos for “Oh Yeah” and “Soap On A Rope” are also included.

Oh Yeah, Down The Drain, and Turnin’ Left live from Phoenix 2009 were released along with CF III on various discs. Not sure about My Kinda Girl and Learning To Fall clips, but it’s a good guess that they are probably the Montreux 2009 stuff. Not sure if sources for the LV material has been mentioned anywhere yet.

The German page for LV has this to say (via Google Translate)

For all the fans there is something very special for the first time: the biggest hits in thunderous live versions LV gathered nine, some still unreleased live songs on an album.. Thus, the German fans were not yet able to enjoy “Lighten Up”, “Big Foot”, “Last Temptation” or “Something Going Wrong”. All four songs were recorded from May to June this year on the Different Devil Tour 2012 in Chicago, Boston and Seattle. On top of it, there are five more live songs previously only available as B-sides were digital bonus tracks and rare versions. Included were “Oh Yeah”, “Down The Drain”, “Turning Left”, “My Kinda Girl” and “Learning To Fall” 2009 in Phoenix.

It’s a nice package if you don’t already have the discs. My only gripe is they didn’t include the bonus song from Chickenfoot III “They Lied” or whatever it’s called. So you would still need to buy another disc if you really wanted it all. All this repackaging is a little much I think, but not uncommon in the current market.

Well, this whole thing is supposed to be exclusive to the European market, so if we didn’t live in the age of today, we wouldn’t even know about it here in the States I suppose.

Makes sense about the package being a European release. I don’t know much about the bonus track on Chickenfoot III. I sent you a message, let me know what you think.

The CF III bonus track “No Change” was available on some pressings. I can’t recall off-hand which ones, but a Google search says that WalMart carries/carried it.
