wjamflan: He didn’t revert. He just left out the tapping part after 6/10 until the album was in the can. You hear him tap again at the Pasadena Civic (10/15/77)

Had a chance to give atomic punk and eruption a good listen from both of those shows. Haven’t done so in years. I did indeed hear what appears to be evolution in atomic punk, but not much. I still wasn’t convinced, they played things randomly in those days, who knows which version they’d stick to. The Pasadena version was so raw a killer though, wish we had it in higher quality. I will search for that.

Then I listened to eruption without the tapping and he did revert back to his 76 ending, not convinced, but the drum intro was there and the hits were polished.

And then….. to my surprise…..YOU CAN CLEARLY HEAR A CUT IN THE TAPE RIGHT WHERE THE TAPPING SEQURNCE IS SUPPOSED TO BEGIN AND IT JUMPS TO HIS 76 ENDING! you then had me convinced. Its not that he didn’t play it, it was clearly cut.

This brings other questions. Was the tape cut for a reason? Makes sense because eddie was paranoid about people knowing of his technique until they were signed, its probably likely the band knew the recorder. Maybe just coincidence? Who knows?

Also, the songs are so much more polished in the magic Mt show that I believe the Warner demos had already been recorded during this performance, or at least being recorded.

The only thing that I’m still not convinced about are all these dates. The timeline seems accurate, but its all circumstantial evidence, and eye witness testimony.

So remind me, why is the magic Mt show not in October? It seems that the band had been polished by an outside party at this point. Or… were the warner demos recorded earlier?
August perhaps?

WE NEED MORE OF THESE CLUB SHOWS to see evolution ! They’re dark sounding, that’s why I think FW best captures their sound.
