guitard: Isn’t this pretty similar to what’s happened with the 2007 and 2012 tours?And taking it a step further, isn’t this a pretty common practice across the board for classic rock era bands that are still playing large venues (Aerosmith, Def Leppard, etc.)?

When they get within a month of the tour opening and venues haven’t sold well, they generally start dropping prices to get bodies in the seats. I often wondered, when radio stations get tickets to give away, do they have to pay something for them or is the ticket giveaway treated as “advertising” for the venue/performance and the tickets are given as the payment? It seems when shows aren’t selling, you probably don’t want to just hand out free tickets? Then again, if they can get you into the building, they’re going to get more money in concessions and merchandise, so it’s probably a wash.
