 | I think Nick is spot on. I thought both the mouth and the nose looked like Ed’s. Also, that’s definitely Ed’s hand-cut black pickguard that ends up on Franky. The missing chink of plastic below the knobs is a dead giveaway. The bare wood body makes this the only pic of it’s kind. That’s why I got so excited when I saw it.
My questions would be:
1. Did Jenny Lens take this on 5/29/77 as well?
2. Was it taken on a different night? Same night as the pic below perhaps?
3. Did inertia graphics just add the text to one of Jennys pics?
4. If not, are there more pictures of this guitar taken by someone else that have been floating around since 2001?
5. Most important: Is that definitely Franky?
Ed has said in interviews that he built Franky in ’76, painting the body right after getting it. This picture calls that into question big time. The shirt seems to make it plausible that it could be 5/29/77. I just thought it was fascinating when I came across it b/c I love trying to piece all of the early history together. I didn’t know if other gearheads would pick up on it here or not. Either way, I knew it was a rare pic that I’d never seen before.
